Job Description
Junk It is a local, family-owned junk removal, janitorial, and property cleanup company serving the Portland metro area. We are currently looking for a dependable and hardworking Day Porter / Property Cleanup Technician to join our team.
The person hired for this position will primarily perform day porter work. This will make up the majority of the employee's regular schedule and responsibilities.
Day porter work focuses on the ongoing cleanliness and appearance of commercial properties, parking lots, job sites, and other assigned locations. Unlike a one-time cleanup, day porter work involves routinely visiting properties and making sure they remain clean, safe, and presentable throughout the week.
What Day Porter Work Includes
Typical day porter responsibilities may include:
- Walking assigned properties and picking up litter, trash, and loose debris
- Cleaning parking lots, sidewalks, entrances, landscaped areas, and common areas
- Emptying designated trash cans and replacing liners
- Sweeping sidewalks, walkways, and other exterior areas
- Removing small dumped items and miscellaneous debris
- Keeping areas around dumpsters and trash enclosures clean
- Checking properties for new trash, dumping, damage, or safety concerns
- Taking before-and-after photos and documenting completed work
- Reporting larger dumped items or issues that require additional attention
- Following assigned routes and maintaining properties on a consistent schedule
- Making sure each property is left clean and professional in appearance
The ideal candidate should be comfortable working independently and understand that day porter work requires consistency and attention to detail. You may visit the same properties multiple times per week, and we expect the same level of quality on every visit.
Additional Work & Responsibilities
Although day porter work will be the primary responsibility of this position, the person hired will also be expected to assist with junk removal and hauling projects as needed.
Junk It provides junk removal services throughout the Portland metro area, and employees may occasionally be scheduled for this type of work instead of their regular day porter duties.
Junk removal work may include:
- Removing furniture, appliances, household items, and other unwanted materials
- Loading and unloading trucks and trailers
- Carrying heavy or bulky items from homes, apartments, businesses, and job sites
- Assisting with residential and commercial cleanouts
- Removing construction and demolition debris
- Sorting, loading, and properly disposing of or recycling materials
- Working as part of a crew on larger cleanup and hauling projects
- Using basic tools and equipment when needed
- Keeping company trucks, trailers, and equipment clean and organized
Applicants should understand that while most regular hours will consist of day porter work, junk removal is also an expected part of the position. The hired employee should be comfortable transitioning between day porter assignments and more physically demanding junk removal projects when needed.
Pay Structure
The base wage is $20.00 per hour, and this will be the employee's normal hourly rate while performing regular day porter duties.
When assigned to certain junk removal or other qualifying projects outside of regular day porter duties, the hourly wage may increase depending on the type and difficulty of the work being performed. These assignments may pay up to $30.00 per hour.
The majority of hours should be expected to be paid at the $20.00 per hour day porter rate. Higher-paying assignments depend on the type of work available and are not guaranteed.
Responsibilities
- Complete assigned day porter routes on schedule
- Maintain clean and presentable commercial properties and job sites
- Pick up litter, trash, and debris
- Empty designated trash receptacles
- Sweep and clean exterior areas
- Take photos and document completed work when required
- Report property damage, illegal dumping, safety concerns, or unusual conditions
- Safely use basic cleaning and cleanup equipment
- Maintain company tools and equipment
- Assist with junk removal, hauling, and cleanout projects as needed
- Load, carry, and remove heavy or bulky items safely
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while on customer properties
- Follow company procedures and safety requirements
Qualifications
- Must be dependable and punctual
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Willingness to perform both day porter and junk removal work
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods
- Ability to bend, lift, carry, and perform repetitive physical tasks
- Ability to lift approximately 100 pounds when necessary
- Comfortable working outdoors in rain, heat, and cold
- Comfortable performing physical and sometimes dirty cleanup work
- Valid driver's license
- Clean driving record
- Reliable transportation preferred
- Previous day porter, janitorial, landscaping, property maintenance, construction cleanup, junk removal, or general labor experience is a plus but not required

The right person should understand that day porter work will be their primary responsibility, but junk removal and hauling are also part of the position. When junk removal projects come up, the employee may be asked to assist with loading, hauling, cleanouts, debris removal, and other related work.
We are looking for someone who can adapt between lighter, independent day porter work and more physically demanding junk removal projects while maintaining a professional attitude and strong work ethic.
