Construction Estimator (we are hiring for all levels of experience)

Location: Lenexa, Kansas

Pay: $100k-$150k base (DOE) 10-30% bonus (DOE) Truck Gas Card

We have been in business for the last 50 years and have a very strong track record in the following fields (in order of most pressing at the moment):

Public Sector - Fire Station, Police Facility, City Halls

Mixed Use - Large Multi Family with Retail, Retail, Class A Office Towers

Healthcare - Medical Offices, Surgical Centers

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Estimator to support the preconstruction and bidding process for commercial construction projects. The Estimator will be responsible for analyzing project documents, developing accurate cost estimates, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids, and supporting project teams from initial pursuit through turnover.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of commercial construction means and methods, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple estimates while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, and project requirements to develop complete and accurate estimates.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and general conditions estimates.
• Solicit, review, level, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals.
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, constructability concerns, and potential project risks.
• Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors during the preconstruction process.
• Assist with conceptual budgeting, value engineering, design development, and competitive bidding.
• Maintain current pricing information, historical cost data, and estimating databases.
• Prepare bid summaries, scope sheets, proposals, and supporting estimate documentation.
• Participate in project handoff meetings and provide estimating support through project startup.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and industry partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred but not required.
• 3 years of estimating experience within commercial construction or a general contracting environment. (we are hiring for all levels of experience)
• Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, materials, subcontractor scopes, and project delivery processes.
• Experience preparing conceptual estimates, detailed estimates, and competitive bids.
• Proficiency with estimating and construction management software, such as Bluebeam, Procore, BuildingConnected, Sage Estimating, or similar platforms.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience estimating projects involving commercial, industrial, manufacturing, healthcare, or specialized construction.
• Experience supporting design-build or negotiated project delivery.
• Knowledge of value engineering, constructability reviews, and preconstruction best practices.
• Established relationships with local subcontractors and suppliers.
