Providing quality, trauma-informed fine arts education to youth in the juvenile justice & foster care communities of Kansas.
Title JAA Art Club Instructor (Pottery)
Description Teaches a 6-week unit at Juniper Art Club, a visual arts class. Teaches key subject of pottery (no access to pottery wheels. Hand-building only).
Work shift: Contract for 2 hours a week - 1 hour of plan time, 1 hour of instruction. Class is Thursdays from 4:15pm-5:15pm. Contract runs 1/22/2026-3/5/2026
Department: Juniper Clubs Programs
Responsible to Juniper Arts Academy Director of Programs
Contract: $300 total.
Key responsibilities
- Follow Juniper Arts Academy endorsed curriculum & units.
- Work with the JAA Director of Programs to create trauma-informed adaptations as needed.
- Attend all required training & follow all Juniper Arts Academy policies and procedures.
- Attends rehearsals/classes prepared and ready.
- Prioritizes students in all manners & advocates for student success.
- Adopts and actively utilizes Trust-Based Relational Intervention practices into teaching (training provided by organization)
- Specializes in teaching pottery (hand-building).
Goals
- Provide quality fine arts education through a trauma-informed lens to youth in the Kansas foster care communities.
- Increase appropriate classroom behavior, social, and emotional skills in students.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Classroom teaching experience preferred.
- Experience in classroom management preferred.
- Some college or college degree in music, art, education, or other relevant fields preferred.
- A current driver's license and/or reliable transportation.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
- Must be 21 years of age (per State of Kansas requirement for working with youth in foster care)
All Juniper Arts Academy applicants must clear the required screening processes prior to being hired and must complete all mandatory training prior to teaching.
