What are the responsibilities and job description for the Highway Operator/Maintenance Worker position at Juneau County?
POSITION SUMMARY
Join our team and help keep Juneau County’s roads safe and in great condition. This role involves hands‑on highway and bridge maintenance, operating a wide range of equipment, supporting traffic control, and assisting with year‑round roadwork, including snow and ice operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform general road and bridge maintenance, including repairs, mowing, brush work, and debris removal.
- Operate trucks, loaders, excavators, tractors, and other highway equipment safely and skillfully.
- Set up and maintain safe work zones and provide traffic control/flagging.
- Assist with winter snow plowing, ice removal, and emergency response.
- Read and follow construction plans and safety procedures.
- Complete daily equipment checks, routine maintenance, and accurate work records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in highway construction or maintenance.
- Wisconsin CDL Class A with N endorsement (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- Ability to obtain job‑related certifications (Flagger, First Aid/CPR, MSHA, etc.).
- Successful completion of pre‑employment physical and drug screening.
PHYSICAL & WORK CONDITIONS
Work involves physical labor, operating equipment in all weather conditions, and exposure to traffic, noise, and outdoor elements.
