Job Summary:
The primary responsibilities of a Direct Care Worker is to monitor and assist all children at their required level of supervision, provide children with emotional support and personal assistance with daily living, and maintain a safe environment for children who are in the care of the Respite Home.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Direct Care Worker will:
- Provide compassionate care and supervision of children.
- Ensure safety of all children.
- Assist children with daily life skills and recreational activities.
- Follow the consumer’s family plan concerning self-care skills such as toileting, washing, dressing, eating, and personal hygiene.
- Teach and support children in the areas of good health habits, grooming, and social manners.
- Transport children as necessary in agency vehicles.
- Follow program operating policies and procedures and ensure compliance throughout designated shift.
- Complete required shift documentation and record keeping in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Comply with Medicaid and Department of Child Welfare Licensing standards and requirements.
- Participates in required trainings.
- Attend all scheduled team meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- Experience providing direct care service a variety of disabilities is a plus.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must have a compassionate and positive attitude.
- Capable of working in a fast paced environment.
- Understanding of the emotional and physical.
- Ability to drive a 12 to 15 passenger van.
- This position requires pre-service and ongoing training.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to provide culturally competent services that shows sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to attend Direct Care Worker training or provide verification of current certification as a Direct Care worker required.
- A current CPR/First Aid/AED certificate
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License, appropriate insurance and use of own vehicle.
Working Conditions:
- Work environment varies between indoor and outdoor activities.
- Work with a variety of consumer acting-out behaviors & aggression.
- Ability to work a flexible schedules including on-call and weekends in a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week environment.
- Ability to commit to training and orientation which will be held during business hours.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs. of weight.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Standing for long periods of time.
