Nuclear Medical Technologist

GENERAL SUMMARY

• You will provide patient services using the imaging modality of Nuclear Medicine.
• You will perform Nuclear Medicine procedures at a technical level.
• You will use behaviors and interpersonal communication styles that are appropriate for a hospital environment and demonstrate courtesy, dignity and respect.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

At all times lives the values of the organization especially as they are expressed in the Service Excellence standards in performing the following:

1. Prepares room and equipment for Nuclear Medicine procedures.
2. Cleans and disinfects Nuclear Medicine room and equipment.
3. Prepares patient for Nuclear Medicine procedure. Explains exam, transfers patient to table, positions, patient, injects radioisotope and assists patient at the end of the procedure.
4. Ensures that patients are as comfortable as possible during exam and while waiting for transport before and after exam by providing blankets, sheets, pillow set, etc.
5. Provides appropriate information on images with respect to time, date and name, as required by a specific procedure.
6. Prepares all isotope kits and disposes of unused isotopes, syringes, and vials.
7. Checks for consents properly signed by patient or guardian. Checks for doctor's orders.
8. Verifies procedure in Epic & reviews any other special notes or comments
9. Observes patient and machine during procedures.
10. Processes the acquired exam data for interpretation by radiologists.
11. Monitors and disposes all radioactive syringes and vials when they reach the standard limits set forth by the regulatory agencies and documents.
12. Monitors hands, body and feet on a daily basis.
13. Records all isotope doses given to patients.
14. Keeps accurate records of ail patient exams.
15. Position may require to cover multiple offsite locations including the Hospital
16. Aids radiologists in operation of equipment.
17. Interacts with the patient and responds to his/her needs within a context which recognizes the growth and development process, or the aging process of the patient.
18. Informs supervisor of any unusual occurrences with respect to the patient, equipment, and events in the department.
19. Provides diagnostic studies and optimum patient care
20. Monitors and records all radioactive shipments received by the department.
21. Performs daily quality control procedures.
22. Maintains the necessary supplies in Nuclear Medicine rooms.
23. Must answer phones, schedule patients and be responsible for arranging this schedule.
24. Performs other related duties as required.
25. On Call as required 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Must be graduate of an accredited program of Nuclear Medicine after completion of RN, ART, or BS program.
• Must be ARRT certified or eligible in Nuclear Medicine or a CNMT or eligible and hold a current NJ State License.
