What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm Laborer & Farmers Market Sales Associate position at Jubilant Fields?
Job Summary
Jubilant Fields, a small produce farm in Trenton, TX is looking for a new crew member to work on the farm, and work as a salesperson running one of their farmers market booths.
The candidate we're seeking has the following characteristics, please read carefully before applying:
- The main and most important one: the ability to work in adverse meteorological conditions and the stamina for this physically intense job. This is NOT a gardening role, it's a FARM position; if hired, you're expected to be able to maintain a high level of output in any climate. The job is extremely strenuous, so if you don't have any experience in labor intensive work done in difficult conditions we strongly advise against applying. You will also need to be capable of lifting at least 60lbs regularly. Bags of fertilizer, bins of potting soil, totes of harvested produce are all heavy and have to be dealt with daily.
- Being self motivated, especially as the role will entail a large level of independent work.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently doing repetitive tasks.
- Attention to detail. We work with living things to produce peoples food! Inattention can quickly lead to a ruined crop, or unedible produce!
- Willingness to learn and grow your skill set.
- Availability Fridays and Saturdays is non-negotiable, but If you have the possibility to work on Sunday as well it'll give you a major advantage.
- Strong ability to take initiative and confidently direct customer interactions
- A responsible driver with a valid driver's license. You will be required to drive our vehicle to the farmer's market and on delivery routes.
- As our farm is located on Dawson's family’s property, respectfulness towards them and their privacy is absolutely mandatory.
- Friendly and outgoing; an important part of this position will be running our booths at a lively and busy farmers market.
- Strong verbal and written English communication.
Prior on-farm experience is neither required nor expected, however prior experience in kitchens or in food handling is a major plus. Food safety is a critical part of this role! Experience working in fast paced environments goes a long way!
This position is excellent for someone who enjoys being able to physically see a result from their labor, as there is a directly visible outcome from every action done. Growing vegetables is not a small undertaking, but it is a gratifying one!
