District Primary Purpose:                              To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.

 

Department Primary Purpose:                      To provide students with appropriate learning activities and                                                                    experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for                                                                intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, which                                                                                  will enable them to develop competencies and skills to                                                                              function successfully in society

 

 

Qualifications:                                               Option I- Preferred

                                                                        Bachelor’s- and 3 years wage earning experience within the past eight years in approved occupations for which instruction is offered or

                                                                        Option II

                                                                        Associates’ and 3 years wage earning experience within the past eight years in one or more approve occupations for which instruction is offered or

                                                                        Option III

                                                                        High School Diploma            and five years wage earning within the past eight years in approved occupations for which instruction is offered.

 

Education/Certification:                    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution           

                                                                        Or

                                                                        An Associates’ degree from an accredited institution

                                                                        Or

                                                                        High school diploma or equivalent

and (a) Valid Texas teaching certificate in which instruction is offered or (b) Letter of approval from an approved educator preparation program for which instruction is offered

 

Experience/Knowledge                      Be knowledgeable in effective schools research, principles of accreditation standards, and Texas Education Agency requirements.  Additionally, be knowledgeable in teaching techniques and methodology, in the physical, mental and emotional child development process, and special needs of exceptional learners.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

 

  1. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and the times designated.

 

  1. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.

 

  1. Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor within the effective schools research and framework for school excellence.

 

  1. Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

 

  1. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

 

  1. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

 

  1. Evaluate student progress on a regular basis.

 

  1. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation to accomplish instructional goals and objectives.

 

  1. Assist in formulating, upholding, and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board Policy.

 

  1. Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educational-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

 

  1. Attend and participate in faculty meetings.

 

  1. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  2. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

 

  1. Establish and maintain cooperative and professional relations with others.

 

  1. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.

 

  1. Provide for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

 

  1. Accept responsibilities for co-curricular activities as assigned when these activities do not interfere with a teacher’s primary teaching assignment.

 

  1. Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration or CTE Director.

 

  1. Follow all Work from Home Protocols when working remotely.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data.  Maintain emotional control under stress.  Ability to interpret and implement TEA rules and regulations.

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Occasional prolonged hours, regular physical demands of stooping, lifting, and other strenuous demands of job performance.
