POSITION SUMMARY
La Joya ISD seeks a dependable and committed Assistant Football Coach to support the Head Football Coach in the organization, supervision, safety, and development of the football program at Juarez-Lincoln High School. This position is intended for a current staff member who will assist with coaching responsibilities while supporting the academic, athletic, and personal growth of student-athletes.
The Assistant Football Coach will help teach football fundamentals, promote discipline and teamwork, assist with practices and games, and support the overall vision and expectations established by the Head Football Coach, campus administration, and La Joya ISD Athletic Department.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Head Football Coach in implementing the Juarez-Lincoln High School football program.
- Assist with daily practices, workouts, conditioning, position development, and game preparation.
- Help teach football fundamentals, including stance, alignment, assignment, technique, effort, blocking, tackling, ball security, pursuit, footwork, communication, and situational awareness.
- Support student-athlete development in individual skills, team concepts, physical conditioning, discipline, confidence, and competitive readiness.
- Assist with warm-ups, cool-downs, stretching, recovery routines, equipment checks, and practice organization.
- Help monitor student-athlete attendance, effort, behavior, academic progress, and UIL eligibility.
- Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices, games, travel, athletic periods, offseason workouts, and team activities.
- Assist with game preparation, equipment, uniforms, field setup, substitutions, statistics, film, scout cards, transportation, and team organization.
- Reinforce program expectations established by the Head Football Coach.
- Promote discipline, teamwork, accountability, toughness, sportsmanship, effort, and pride in Juarez-Lincoln High School and La Joya ISD.
- Maintain positive and professional communication with students, parents, staff, and coaches.
- Support campus and district athletic department expectations.
FOOTBALL PROGRAM SUPPORT
- Assist in developing proper football technique and understanding of the game.
- Help student-athletes improve position-specific skills, football IQ, strength, conditioning, execution, and team responsibility.
- Support beginner and developing players through patient instruction, repetition, correction, and encouragement.
- Reinforce safe play, proper equipment use, hydration, recovery, and respect for officials, opponents, teammates, and coaches.
- Assist with equipment management, including helmets, shoulder pads, practice gear, footballs, cones, sleds, bags, uniforms, first-aid supplies, and team materials.
- Support student-athletes with goal setting, role understanding, game preparation, and team expectations.
- Assist with tracking attendance, performance, academic eligibility, player development, and team needs.
- Support team-building activities and student leadership within the program.
- Encourage participation, commitment, and year-round athletic development when applicable.
- Support sub-varsity and feeder program alignment as directed by the Head Football Coach.
COMPLIANCE AND SAFETY
- Maintain current CPR, AED, First Aid, concussion, heat illness, and UIL-required certifications.
- Follow all UIL, TEA, district, campus, and athletic department policies.
- Ensure student-athletes are supervised at all times during practices, games, workouts, and travel.
- Monitor field safety, hydration, heat conditions, equipment condition, and student well-being.
- Report injuries, incidents, safety concerns, or discipline issues to the Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator in a timely manner.
- Follow emergency action procedures and district safety expectations.
- Maintain professional boundaries with student-athletes at all times.
- Promote safe, age-appropriate football development and discourage unsafe play.
- Ensure proper teaching of contact progression, blocking, tackling, and equipment use.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current La Joya ISD employee preferred.
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate or appropriate employment status with the district.
- Knowledge of football fundamentals preferred.
- Coaching experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to work under the direction of the Head Football Coach.
- Strong communication, organization, and supervision skills.
- Commitment to student safety, academic success, and athletic development.
