Overview
The Juab County Attorney’s Office is seeking a motivated, professional, and service-
oriented attorney to serve as a Deputy County Attorney. This is a full-time salaried position
(minimum 40 hours per week) offering a diverse and challenging practice that includes
criminal prosecution and civil representation of county government. Work hours may be
scheduled between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
This position is open to all interested and qualified applicants and offers a meaningful
opportunity to serve the residents of Juab County while developing broad courtroom and
public-sector legal experience.
Primary Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Juab County Attorney, the Deputy County Attorney
performs duties as assigned, which may include:
Criminal Prosecution
• Prosecute criminal offenses in District, Justice, and Juvenile Courts.
• Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of cases and prepare matters for court.
• Represent the State and County at all stages of the criminal process, including
arraignments, plea hearings, pretrial conferences, preliminary hearings, trials,
sentencing, appeals, post-conviction proceedings, and other related hearings.
• Review and screen police reports; provide legal guidance to investigators and law
enforcement officers, including consultation at crime scenes.
• Interview law enforcement officers, victims, and witnesses.
• Evaluate cases under investigation and consult with law enforcement agencies
regarding charging decisions.
• Train and provide ongoing legal support and advice to local, state, and federal law
enforcement agencies on criminal law and investigative issues.
Civil Representation
• Represent Juab County and assigned departments in civil litigation in state and
federal courts, appellate courts, and administrative proceedings.
• Prepare and manage the County’s civil defense and advise county officials
regarding the settlement of claims.
• Review contracts and other legal documents and issue legal opinions to county
departments and officials.
• Represent county and state agencies in enforcement and collection matters, as
requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required Knowledge and Skills
• Thorough knowledge of litigation procedures, including the Utah Rules of Civil
Procedure, Evidence, Criminal Procedure, Juvenile Procedure, and Appellate
Procedure.
• Working knowledge of the Utah Criminal Code and Utah State Code.
• Strong litigation and trial advocacy skills.
• Proficiency in legal research, analysis, and legal writing.
• Effective negotiation skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to effectively use case management systems, presentation tools, word
processing software, spreadsheets, and legal research platforms.
Preferred or Developable Knowledge
• Local government law.
• Public financing, bonding, and legislative processes.
• Land use law.
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in a professional office setting and involves the regular use of
standard office equipment, including computers. The position may involve high-stress
situations and interaction with individuals in emotionally charged or confrontational
circumstances. Travel is primarily local during business hours, though occasional out-of-
area or overnight travel may be required.
Juab County pays for Utah State Bar license renewal and approved continuing legal
education (CLE) costs; however, maintaining licensure and completing CLE requirements
remains the responsibility of the employee.
Compensation and Benefits ($40.24/hr-$61.86/hr)
Salary is commensurate with experience, as determined by the Juab County
Commission. Juab County offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

Required Qualifications
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active and good-standing membership in the Utah State Bar Association (to be
verified by the Juab County Attorney’s Office).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
