POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Engineering oversees the technical design within a design–build delivery model, leveraging their deep expertise in electrical and power infrastructure while effectively leading and shaping a high-performing Engineering team.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops the optimal Engineering organizational structure to ensure high quality output and ability to scale for growth.
- Acts as an engineering role model, balancing strategic oversight with direct involvement, to elevate team capabilities and confidence.
- Capable of troubleshooting complex power setups and interpreting electrical schematics.
- Guiding engineering design to meet industry and client and support construction readiness
- Designs and implements QA/QC systems to ensure conformity and accuracy
- Engages directly with clients to ensure expectations are met and system performance is verified .
- Facilitates cross-functional coordination with Preconstruction, Engineering, Construction, and Client teams to address challenges early and maintain project momentum and satisfaction.
- Develops, monitors and reports key quality metrics —design audit scores, NCR trends, punch list completion—using dashboards and structured reviews.
- Leads post-project lessons learned cycles to drive updates in design standards, QA/QC processes, and mentoring strategies.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and communicate the organization's vision, mission, and strategic goals.
- Make high-level decisions on policy and strategy.
- Oversee the development and implementation of long-term strategies.
- Lead change management initiatives within the department
- Represent the organization in external relations and partnerships.
- Ensure organizational compliance with regulations and ethical standards.
- Monitor industry trends and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Report to stakeholders on organizational performance.
- Review and approve hours and timecards for direct reports weekly or by deadlines
- Develop employees for career growth and bench strength
- Monitor individual and team performance, offering constructive feedback.
- Provide feedback regarding staffing needs and levels
- Involved in the feedback and decision-making process for selection and hiring process of new team members
- Involved in the feedback and decision-making process resulting in formal disciplinary action (including termination) when necessary
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback and Identify training needs and coordinate development opportunities; Resolve conflicts and address employee concerns promptly.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering required
- Master’s in Electrical Engineering preferred
- Professional Electrical Engineering License preferred(CA license a plus)
- 10 years in power engineering with 5 years in leadership role
- Experience in design/build structure preferred
- Proven experience with QA/QC systems, commissioning protocols, and industry compliance
- Strong leadership in mentoring teams, excellent communicator, and comfortable with hands-on field engagement.
EQUIPMENT & APPLICATIONS /WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sitting for Extended Periods – Spending long hours at a desk working on a computer, reviewing plans, or handling paperwork.
- Typing and Computer Use – Engaging in frequent keyboard and mouse use for emails, reports, scheduling, and documentation.
- Reading and Reviewing Documents – Handling blueprints, contracts, and reports, which may require prolonged focus and visual strain.
- Occasional Lifting and Carrying – Moving documents, plans, or office supplies, typically up to 10-25 lbs.
- Repetitive Hand and Finger Movements – Writing, typing, and using office equipment such as printers and phones.
- Walking and Standing – Moving between office spaces, attending meetings, and sometimes walking through job sites.
- Driving or Traveling – Visiting job sites or attending off-site meetings as necessary.
- Wearing PPE as Needed – Donning safety gear (e.g., hard hat, safety glasses, boots) when visiting active construction sites
Pay Range: $200,000 - $250,000/yr, with the potential for a discretionary bonus. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
