Controls Technician II

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Controls Technician II must be able to work independently and as part of a team of electricians, engineers, and other technical staff while maintaining a high level of professionalism and commitment to quality production.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitors various valves and meters to ensure proper operation.
• Analyzes and improves performance parameters of the automated system.
• Conducts preventative maintenance.
• Maintains records of maintenance performed, work orders requested, and parts requested.
• Ability to work in industrial control panels and motor control centers.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory like Voltage, Current and Power.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical systems.
• Ability to use basic hand tools to install, maintain, and configure electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of industrial communications (i.e., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, DeviceNet, ControlNet, HART, etc.)
• Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and diagrams.
• Ability to install, troubleshoot and maintain discrete and analog inputs and outputs.
• Familiar with industrial instruments (i.e., valves, proximity sensors, level sensors, bindicators, solenoids, pneumatics, flow meters, etc.)
• Ability to use multimeter to measure voltage, current, resistance and continuity.
• Basic knowledge of motor controls (i.e., motor starter, soft starter, variable frequency drive etc.)
• Ability to use Microsoft Office software.
• Familiar with Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers, electricians, and engineers.
• Knowledge of wireless communications.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Ability to configure and calibrate process instruments (i.e., flow meters, conductivity, turbidity, pressure, level, and flow)
• Ability to troubleshoot and maintain industrial ethernet networks.
• Bilingual (English and Spanish)
• Two-year technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited course (or equivalent) is preferred.
• ISA Certified Control System Technician is preferred.
• Experience working at food and beverage processing and minerals and mining industries, preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with clean DMV record.

EQUIPMENT & APPLICATIONS /WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Lifting and Carrying – Frequently lifting and carrying tools, materials, and equipment, often weighing up to 25-50 lbs.
• Climbing and Balancing – Using ladders, scaffolding, and lifts to reach high areas for wiring and fixture installations.
• Crouching and Kneeling – Working in tight spaces like crawlspaces, attics, and vaults.
• Standing for Long Periods – Spending hours on their feet while wiring or troubleshooting.
• Repetitive Movements – Engaging in repeated motions such as twisting, bending at the waist, kneeling, stripping wires, twisting connections, and using hand tools continuously
• Working in Uncomfortable Positions – Holding tools or equipment overhead, reaching into confined areas, or maintaining awkward postures.
• Exposure to Weather – Working outdoors in extreme heat, cold, rain, or wind
• Hand and Finger Dexterity – Grasping objects with the use of fingers, palm and wrists to hold/and or manipulate objects (hammers, saws, pencils, pens, etc.)
• Pulling and Pushing – Pulling wires through conduits or pushing heavy equipment into place.
• Carrying Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Wearing and carrying safety gear like hard hats, gloves, harnesses, and boots.
