We are currently seeking a Site Safety Manager for Port Arthur Texas, reporting to the Director of HSE. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining a first-class safety program that reflects the Company’s uncompromising commitment to safe work practices and for ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to HSE standards and guidelines, management systems and procedures, and the ability to communicate to all levels of employees in the organization as part of our commitment to quality and employee health.
Candidate will be based project based.
Essential Job Duties:
- Performs job safety audits and observations at multiple field locations documenting results, communicating improvement areas with onsite personnel, and reporting findings to management
- Interfaces with project managers, regional managers, and labor representatives to resolve any hazardous working conditions and unsafe activities observed or reported from site inspections and audits
- Assists project managers with safety briefings, conducts training to craft labor, participates in training meetings, and assists HSE education for project managers
- Reviews and audits compliance of onsite training records for compliance with HSE policies and procedures
- Manages, trains, and mentors project based HSE Advisors to develop their knowledge base and performance regarding HSE policy, leadership skills, and customer interactions
- Participates in customer meetings, including pre-job walk throughs, safety committees, and scheduled reviews. Provides feedback to JT Thorpe leadership and the customer, identifying opportunities to increase safety.
- Assists with large turnaround project kickoffs, ensuring HSE excellence expectations are communicated and implemented from day one of projects
- Investigates incidents on-site by observing, gathering data/evidence, interviewing witnesses, and using root cause analysis to determine contributing factors and future mitigation strategies. Assists regions in closing out corrective actions
- Manages and ensures compliance with MSHA training to field personnel on Parts 46 and 48 (experience or certification on MSHA part 48 helpful)
- Ensures industrial hygiene field sampling and related documentation on hazards faced in the workplace are completed when required
- Assists Project Managers in developing site specific safety and health plans during bidding and pre-job phases
- Reviews and continually provides feedback to project managers and HSE Director regarding job safety analysis/hazard analysis documents
- Assists regional offices and project managers with case management incident reporting protocol
- Works with Warehouse Mangers and Project Managers to ensure the SDS database is current. Maintains database of SDS chemicals
- Champions JT Thorpe’s behavior and hazard observations “FLASH” program by gauging participation on site, reviewing submissions, and resolving observed hazards
- Ensures “FLASH” program is being properly utilized and implemented at assigned job sites and office/warehouse locations.
Qualifications/Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in health, safety, environmental science, or related field preferred. HSE experience in lieu of a degree may be considered dependent on roles and responsibilities.
- 10 years of related safety experience
- 5 years of supervisor experience preferred
- Computer skills - individual will need to have proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, along with other general computer software use
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including presenting in front of employees (15-30). Bilingual preferred (Spanish)
- Ability to ascend/descend stairs and ladders, enter confided spaces, crawl, wear a harness and other PPE, wear respirated (full and/or half face) based on site requirements, and walk/stand for prolonged periods of time.
- This position is regularly required to work on-site, sometimes on an ongoing basis. May require extended hours for evenings and weekends.
