Utility Systems Repairer-Operator

About the Position: This position is located within the Logistics Facility Management Department at Martin Army Community Hospital, Fort Benning, GA. The primary purpose of this position is to operate as a journey level Boiler Plant Equipment Mechanic. However, as workload varies, also performs as a Boiler Plant Operator (large plants) and an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Utility Systems Repairer-Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common boiler, heating and/or air conditioning systems tasks including installing components of boiler, heating and air conditioning systems. Perform cleaning and replacement of nozzles, electrodes, and other small parts; repairing or assembling heating and air conditioning parts including pumps, compressors, and/or evaporators; collecting samples of boiler feed-water for testing. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

• Physical Efforts: Frequently works on ladders, scaffolding or platforms where equipment is located. Stands, stoops, kneel, bends and climbs; and works in tiring, uncomfortable positions. Regularly lifts, carries, handles and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally handles objects of heavier weight.
• Working Conditions:
  Works inside and outside, subject to all weather conditions. Exposure to almost constant high temperature from boilers. There is exposure to dirt, greasy odors, smoke, fumes and gases. Uncomfortable face masks, or respirators, and protective devices may be worn. Scalds, cuts, bruises, and broken bones my result from accidents while working around boilers and machinery and equipment.
