What are the responsibilities and job description for the Melt Supervisor position at JSW Steel USA Ohio?
Basic Function:
Melt Supervisor is responsible for the safe production of steel to include the handling and processing of scrap, ladle metallurgical furnace operation, the electric arc furnace operation, and refractory operation in the Melt Shop.
Responsibilities Include:
- Effective and efficient use of personnel and materials to safely produce quality steel
- Supervision of production workers involved in the loading, handling and melting of scrap, and refining steel
- Assists, instructs, directs, and trains personnel in the operational procedures involved in the melt shop process, along with the care of equipment used.
- Completion of all production and supervisory reports as required
- Pprovide full support for the implementation and management of the Safety policies in area of responsibility
- Participate in all accident and incident investigation in are of responsibility
Qualification/Requirements
- Two years supervisory and production experience in electric arc steel making and ladle metallurgical furnace
- High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred
- Basic metallurgical knowledge
- Broad knowledge of melt shop procedures to support decision making about composition of scrap mix, carbon and oxygen mixtures, and alloy calculation in order to produce all grades of carbon steel
- Experience in scrap quality processing, and handling an electric arc furnace, the operation and preventive maintenance of associated melt shop equipment to include cranes, and the ability to assist with the diagnosis of breakdown problems and maintenance repairs
