Assistant Superintendent – Commercial Concrete
JSR Construction, Inc. is a San Diego–based commercial structural concrete contractor seeking an experienced Assistant Superintendent to support our Project Superintendent and independently manage field operations when required.
The ideal candidate has strong concrete field experience, understands structural and architectural concrete construction, and can take ownership of assigned projects or scopes without constant supervision. This position requires someone who can plan work, lead crews, coordinate with general contractors and other trades, and keep projects moving safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Project Superintendent with daily field operations
- Independently manage the jobsite when the Project Superintendent is unavailable or assigned elsewhere
- Plan manpower, materials, equipment, concrete placements, and daily activities
- Direct concrete foremen, carpenters, laborers, finishers, and subcontractors
- Review plans, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and project schedules
- Coordinate layout, excavation, formwork, reinforcing steel, embeds, concrete placement, and finishing
- Communicate with general contractors, inspectors, testing agencies, and other trades
- Conduct pre-pour inspections and verify that work is ready before concrete placement
- Monitor job costs, productivity, quality, and schedule performance
- Identify conflicts and communicate field issues to the Project Superintendent and Project Manager
- Complete daily reports, timekeeping, delivery documentation, and field records
- Lead toolbox talks and enforce company and jobsite safety requirements
- Maintain an organized, professional, and productive jobsite
Qualifications
- At least 7 years of commercial concrete construction experience preferred
- Previous experience as an Assistant Superintendent, Concrete Foreman, General Foreman, or similar field-leadership position
- Strong knowledge of structural and architectural concrete construction
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and project schedules
- Experience with footings, foundations, slabs, walls, site concrete, reinforcing steel, and concrete placements
- Ability to independently organize work and manage a jobsite for multiple days when necessary
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable communicating with general contractors, inspectors, and field personnel
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel between projects throughout San Diego County, from Chula Vista to Valley Center
- OSHA 30 certification preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish is helpful but not required
