Position Overview

The Associate II leads project components and enhances project deliverables within a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment within the Primary Care Access & Delivery Practice with specific focus on community health centers. This position requires advanced proficiency in managing complex project activities, mentoring staff, and developing strong client and partner relationships to drive innovative public health solutions. The Associate II supports business development efforts as requested.

The Associate II reports to a Principal. This position can be based in the U.S. where JSI is registered.

Responsibilities

[list}Identify and inform findings, reports, and technical assistance offerings, using health center-related data.

Lead small projects from concept to implementation, or manage technical activities and/or teams within larger projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, work plans, and high-quality standards.

Develop technical presentations, training sessions, and written materials from start to finish, including concept, outline, and talking points.

Develop components of projects within training, technical assistance, evaluation, and/or strategic planning. Ensure alignment with methodological standards.

With support from methodological experts, utilize and contribute to the enhancement of frameworks, approaches, project tools, and practices, ensuring high-quality, methodologically grounded work products.

Utilize emotional intelligence to deeply analyze and understand problems, synthesizing information from multiple sources.

Take the lead in creating more complex deliverables such as detailed policy analyses or training modules, ensuring alignment with project objectives. Actively seek and apply innovative approaches to enhance the effectiveness and impact of project deliverables, working both independently and within team settings.

Actively refines and adjusts strategies through iterative discussions, applying contextual understanding to anticipate project needs and improve project outcomes. Facilitates effective in-person and virtual meetings, adapting meeting goals as needed.

Practice cultural humility and actively engage with participants, setting a tone of openness and promoting the synthesis of ideas by the group.

Engage in business development, reviewing opportunities and actively contributing to go/no-go decisions. Mentor early career staff in understanding and responding to proposal requirements. Lead the development of technical approach sections, or the entire technical approach for smaller proposals.

Maintain strong client and partner relationships by ensuring regular communication and transparency about progress on work products and activities. Deliver work products that enhance client satisfaction, evidenced by ongoing positive feedback.

Qualifications

Education, experience, skills, and competencies

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience, Master’s degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying foundational knowledge and methodologies in community health centers under the Health Center Program, gained through professional experience.
  • Demonstrated ongoing use of quantitative data to guide program direction and/or process improvements. Familiarity with the Uniform Data System (UDS) reporting requirement is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading small projects or key aspects of larger projects, effectively guiding team activities and maintaining alignment with project goals, such as creation of complex work products that enhance project delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information from multiple sources, engage in productive and iterative discussions, and navigate new challenges with curiosity and resilience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by organized and clear written deliverables, oral presentations, and ability to tailor writing to different audiences.
  • Foundational experience facilitating training, and providing technical assistance to groups with cultural humility, incorporating ideas across diverse perspectives.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google products (Drive, Calendar, Documents, etc.). Ability to utilize AI tools thoughtfully, ensuring efficiency, integrity, and excellence while adhering to ethical standards and maintaining data privacy.
  • Proficiency in quantitative statistical applications (e.g., R, SAS, Stata, and SPSS), qualitative software (e.g., NVivo), survey platforms (e.g., Alchemer), and specialized applications (e.g., Python, AI) is preferred.
  • Experience conducting qualitative research (focus groups, interviews, contextual inquiries) is preferred.
  • Understands the relationship between the social determinants of health and their connection to public health and publicly-funded health care.

Language

  • Fluent oral and written English communication skills.

Travel expectation

  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically, if necessary (up to 25%).

Work environment

  • Operates a computer a majority of the time in a virtual first environment.
  • Ability to maintain a comfortable and ergonomic posture while working or bending, sitting, kneeling, lifting, driving.
