Lead Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is actively searching for a Lead Instrumentation & Controls Engineer for our client’s operation near Elkview / Charleston, WV. This is a long-term contract position with competitive pay. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a state-of-the-art project.

Responsibilities

The Lead Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will take charge of complex, multidisciplinary projects and guide high-performing teams from concept through commissioning. This role requires both technical excellence and leadership, ensuring safety, quality, and innovation at every stage. You’ll be the go-to expert shaping control strategies, mentoring engineers, and driving successful project delivery.

Qualifications

• 10 years of progressive experience in instrumentation & controls engineering, ideally in polymers, power generation, or related industries.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, or Chemical Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Virginia (or the US) or equivalent certification/qualification.
• Strong knowledge of instrumentation (level, pressure, flow, analyzers) and control platforms (ABB, Honeywell, DeltaV, Ovation, Allen-Bradley)
• Experience drafting control narratives for programmers and working with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and SIL calculations.
• Proficiency with engineering tools and software.
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in professional English.
