What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President/Director Operational Risk - Commodities - Houston position at JS Careers?
We are working with one of the leading global physical and financial commodities trading firms who are looking for an Operational Risk Director. They are looking for an experienced operational risk professional with a deep understanding of commodities products (Energy, LNG, commodities infrastructure etc) to lead the second line risk function for the Americas.
Please note this role is based in Houston, Texas and remote work is not an option.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out operational risk assessments across the various departments within the commodities business, partnering with key stakeholders with the identification of risks and mitigating controls in their business units.
- Analysing identified trends in key risk indicators and recommending controls to prevent a repeat of risk events.
- Updating local operational risk policies to ensure best practice.
- Preparation of risk and compliance reports for board reporting.
- Provide ongoing training to the business, and staff induction regarding operational risk.
Suitable candidates will possess:
- Educated to at least a Bachelors degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience acting in an Operational Risk role capacity, ideally with a background in internal audit/assurance.
- An in-depth understanding of commodities products is required, ideally with coverage of energy trading and LNG.
- An understanding of the US regulatory environment.
- Strong experience in controls testing.
- The role requires an individual who is an effective manager of senior stakeholder relationships, with the ability to see projects through to the end.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
