Job Summary: The Registered Nurse I PRN assesses, plans, directs, implements, and assists to provide quality patient care for assigned patients. This role is committed to working a minimum number of shifts per the RN PRN Workplan agreement.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
- Delivers nursing care to assigned group of patients to include education directed towards identified knowledge deficits, treatment planning, pain management and discharge planning utilizing the nursing process.
- Delivers quality nursing care while minimizing the risk of infection, contamination, harm, or injury. Maintains safe and clean working environment ensuring compliance with procedure rules and regulations.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to optimize numbers of breastfeeding and breast milk feeding infants.
- Develops and implements standards of care, policies and procedures for breastfeeding/breast milk management.
- Assesses infant’s readiness to breastfeeding/breast milk feeding.
- Documents teaching and consultation and response in the medical record. Reports findings to appropriate staff.
- Provides education to parents who are interested in breastfeeding/breast milk feeding. May include: bedside consultation, classes, reading materials, or other methods identified as needed.
- Participates in discharge teaching related to breastfeeding/breast milk feeding.
- Provides telephone counseling to breastfeeding/breast milk feeding mothers in the community.
- Provides education for prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding mothers and assists with the education of Network employees on the subject of lactation support.
- Serves as a resource person for physicians, CNMs, NP, PAs, nurses and other healthcare providers in order to promote optimal care.
- Provides and coordinates patient care, educates patients and public about various health conditions, and provides advice and emotional support to patients and family members.
- Maintains accurate, detailed reports and records and directs care with regard to age and developmental stage, presenting complaint, and pertinent history.
- Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses. Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in patients' conditions.
