Description: The Pharmacist PRN is responsible for reviewing medication orders, preparing and dispensing medications and other pharmaceutical products to outpatients and employees. This job also ensures that prescriptions are handled according to policies and procedures, standard practices of the profession, and state and federal laws and standards established by regulatory or accreditation agencies.
Typical Duties:
- Interprets prescriptions and transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles accurately or supervises this process. Maintains accurate, complete patient medication profiles.
- Reviews prescriptions for appropriateness, accuracy, completeness, and formulary compliance.
- Ensures timely and accurate drug preparation and distribution.
- Compounds medications as approved by JPS formulary.
- Provides patient counseling in person or via telephone.
- Provides support and consultation to health care professionals.
- Collaborates with other facilities and pharmacists to determine best practices of care.
- Directs support employees in the activities of drug preparation and distribution.
- Types and/or correct prescriptions when needed.
- Performs cashier functions and daily cash reports.
- Assists in problem solving in matters relating to the pharmacy.
- Acts as the Supervisor when the absence of the Pharmacist-in-Charge.
- Reports and documents incidents and activities as required by the department.
- Transfers in and out prescription records as required and authorized according to pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Assists in ensuring that state and federal laws and regulations and standards established by regulatory or accreditation agencies are satisfied.
- Supports the pharmacy’s pharmacoeconomic efforts by maintaining the formulary through minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic substitutions protocols, and promoting rational drug therapy selection.
- Participates in the pharmacy clinical intervention program.
- Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, critical lab values and appropriateness of drug and dose.
- Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Takes on specialized tasks as assigned to further the practice of pharmacy at JPS.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
