Principal Data Analyst
Role Overview
This role serves as a Medicaid Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Illinois Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). The Principal Data Analyst will provide leadership and guidance for large-scale Medicaid data warehouse implementation, operations, reporting, and analytics, supporting business and technical decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and advise stakeholders on Medicaid data warehouse design, operations, and reporting
- Provide expert guidance on claims processing, eligibility, provider enrollment, and third-party liability
- Identify Medicaid agency data needs and recommend data-driven solutions with proof of concepts
- Direct business and technical teams on proper healthcare data usage
- Recommend improvements based on Medicaid best practices, CMS standards, and policies
- Support dashboards, analytics, reports, and decision-support tools for stakeholders
- 10 years in Information Technology
- 5 years working directly with or supporting State Medicaid agencies
- Strong knowledge of:
- Medicaid claims, eligibility, and provider data
- CMS programs and federal reporting requirements
- Hands-on experience with SQL and Excel for large data warehouse analysis
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder-facing skills
- Ability to collaborate, mentor, and work with executive-level clients
- 2 years experience with PERM, T-MSIS, CMS Federal Reporting
- 2 years experience with HEDIS, CHIPRA, or quality metrics
- Experience with Teradata or similar enterprise database platforms
- State Medicaid experience – 5 years
- Medicaid data expertise (claims, eligibility, providers)
- CMS reporting knowledge
