Innovation Economy Venture Capital Relationship Team, Technology Coverage - Managing Director
The Venture Capital Relationship Team is a key component of the firm’s overall Innovation Economy (IE) business, covering venture capital firms and partners in early and growth stage companies.
Role Summary
- Lead coverage of Technology-focused venture capital firms as a Managing Director within JPMorgan Chase’s Global Banking, partnering across the Commercial & Investment Bank, Private Bank, Credit, and Global Technology to deliver the full J.P. Morgan platform to VC firms, General Partners, and portfolio companies across the lifecycle.
- Champion a culture of innovation and client-centricity; stay current on industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation, strategic partnerships, and improved client outcomes.
- Drive operating excellence by leveraging automation and existing technical infrastructure to scale coverage and efficiency, while embracing new technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Relationship leadership
- Expand senior relationships with Technology-focused VC firms (GPs, firm leadership, Partners) across the US; serve as a strategic advisor on exit pathways, venture debt, and capital markets readiness for portfolio companies.
- Mobilize internal networks and firmwide resources to deepen client relationships and deliver integrated solutions.
- Origination and advisory
- Apply prior Technology IB expertise to identify and originate multi-product solutions: M&A advisory, equity (IPO, follow-on, convertible), debt (IG/HY/DCM), private capital and venture/growth financing.
- Provide sector-specific strategic insights and content (valuation, market updates, precedents, comparables) across enterprise/cloud, internet/consumer tech, fintech, AI, and applied technology.
- Demonstrate disciplined sales management: pipeline development, forecasting, and consistent attainment of revenue and origination goals.
- Cross-platform partnership
- Orchestrate cross-sell across Investment Banking, Markets, Commercial Bank (credit, treasury, payments), and the Private Bank.
- Risk, controls, and franchise stewardship
- Uphold regulatory, control, suitability, and reputational risk standards; ensure KYC/AML completeness; maintain strong CRM hygiene.
- Contribute to team development, mentorship, and a disciplined operating cadence.

- Demonstrate strong organization and prioritization under pressure; adapt to changing business priorities and multitask effectively.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required; formal credit training strongly preferred.
- 10 years of relevant banking/coverage experience, including Technology investment banking and/or VC relationship coverage; demonstrated track record advising Technology companies across M&A and capital markets and engaging at the C-suite/board level.
- Deep Technology sector expertise with strong corporate finance knowledge across M&A, ECM, DCM, private capital; familiarity with venture/growth structures (convertibles, preferred equity, venture debt).
- Proven ability to originate, lead, and execute complex, multi-product transactions; consistent record of meeting/exceeding sales and business development goals.
- Strong experience with banking products for VC firms and their portfolio companies; ability to mobilize internal networks and resources across lines of business.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, content creation, and presentation skills; strong interpersonal and influencing skills with senior business and control partners.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Completion of a recognized IB analyst/associate program or bank credit training program; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Strong regulatory and control knowledge; disciplined pipeline management and operating cadence; self-directed, proactive, and creative problem-solving with sound judgment in ambiguity.
- Established network within Technology VC, growth equity, and entrepreneur ecosystems; VC-focused product familiarity preferred; thought leadership presence a plus.
- Exceptional organizational skills with ability to prioritize under tight deadlines.
Licensing and Regulatory
- FINRA Series 79 and 63 required; unlicensed candidates will be considered and must obtain within 90 days of start date to remain in the role.
- FINRA Series 24 required or must be obtained within 180 days of hire if supervisory responsibilities or role scope necessitate it.
- This position is subject to Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act; employment contingent upon JPMorgan Chase’s review of criminal conviction history, including pretrial diversions or program entries.
