Position Overview
JP Tank is seeking an experienced Concrete Construction Foreman to lead field crews on large reinforced concrete construction projects.
This is a working foreman position, meaning the foreman works alongside the crew while also leading daily production, coordinating jobsite activities, and ensuring work meets company quality and productivity standards.
Foremen are responsible for managing crews of typically six to eight workers, executing construction according to plans, and ensuring projects meet production targets and safety requirements.
The foreman plays a critical role in the success of each project and is one of the most respected and highest-paid field positions within the company.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership
Lead and supervise concrete construction crews on active job sites.
Typical crew size is 6–8 workers, though crew size may vary depending on project complexity and experience level.
Responsibilities include:
Directing daily work activities
Maintaining productivity and crew efficiency
Ensuring crew members follow instructions and safety procedures
Mentoring and developing less experienced workers
Foremen are expected to demonstrate both strong leadership and strong personal work ethic.
Production Management
Foremen are directly responsible for achieving production targets communicated by company management.
Production metrics may include:
Concrete placement volumes
Rebar installation rates
Formwork installation progress
Daily jobsite production goals
While a field coordinator may track KPIs, the foreman is responsible for executing the work needed to achieve those targets.
Concrete Construction Execution
Foremen actively participate in construction activities including:
Concrete formwork installation and stripping
Rebar placement and tying
Concrete placement and finishing
Installation of waterstop and embedded items
General reinforced concrete construction tasks
This is a hands-on leadership role.
Blueprint Reading & Layout
Foremen must be able to accurately read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Responsibilities include:
Reading structural and construction drawings
Performing jobsite layout and elevation checks
Ensuring all construction matches plan specifications
Verifying dimensions and alignments before major pours
Equipment Operation
Foremen are expected to operate equipment when needed, including:
Skid loaders
Telehandlers
General jobsite equipment
While equipment operation may be shared among crew members, the foreman must be capable of operating equipment when required.
Communication & Coordination
Foremen regularly coordinate with:
General contractors
Engineers
Inspectors
Concrete suppliers
Pump operators
On projects where a field operations coordinator is present, the foreman works closely with them. If a coordinator is not on site, the foreman may temporarily assume broader coordination responsibilities.
Reporting & Communication
Foremen communicate daily with the field operations coordinator regarding:
Production progress
Jobsite issues
Crew performance
Material needs
Equipment needs
Foremen also assist in ensuring accurate daily reporting including:
Production updates
Time reporting oversight
Material usage communication
Safety Leadership
Foremen play a key role in maintaining safe job sites.
Responsibilities may include:
Conducting toolbox safety talks
Participating in job hazard analysis (JHA) discussions
Enforcing PPE and safety standards
Assisting with incident reporting when necessary
If a jobsite coordinator is not present, the foreman may assume primary responsibility for safety coordination.
Travel & Work Schedule
Projects may require travel depending on job location.
Local Projects
Many projects are within driving distance of our shop in Rosendale, Wisconsin. Crews meet at the shop and travel to job sites in company vehicles.
Semi-Local Projects
For jobs more than 1.5 hours from the shop, employees may stay in hotels during the work week.
Long-Distance Projects
Some projects require extended travel, where crews may stay out of town for 2–3 weeks at a time.
Transportation is provided using company vehicles.
Per Diem
Employees receive $50 per day per diem for nights spent out of town.
Work Schedule
Typical start time:
6:00 AM – 7:00 AM
Typical weekly hours:
60 hours per week
Standard schedule:
Monday through Friday
Occasional Saturdays may be required depending on project demands.
Night work is rare but early concrete pours may occasionally require earlier start times.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of concrete construction experience
Minimum 2 years of leadership or foreman experience
Strong ability to read and interpret construction blueprints
Proven leadership ability managing construction crews
Ability to work long hours in physically demanding environments
Strong communication skills when interacting with crews and jobsite stakeholders
Preferred Experience
Experience with heavy concrete construction
Experience with wall forming systems
Experience with tank construction
Experience with wastewater or agricultural infrastructure projects
Concrete finishing experience
Experience operating skid loaders or telehandlers
Physical Requirements
Lift up to 75 pounds regularly
Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Climb ladders and work at heights
Work safely around heavy equipment and construction operations
