Position Overview
As a Dispatcher, you’ll coordinate and optimize local freight assignments while ensuring seamless communication between drivers, operations, and customers. The role demands strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
Responsibilities
• Assign & adjust loads: Receive and prioritize orders, assign to the best-fit local drivers, and reassign in real time as delays or urgent requests arise.
• Keep systems current: Update all customer portals and the TMS with accurate pickup/delivery details, notes, and statuses.
• Guide drivers: Share clear instructions (addresses, appointments, special handling), monitor HOS, troubleshoot issues, and support new-hire drivers post-orientation.
• Document & close out: Maintain daily dispatch logs; record confirmations, rates, and accessorials (e.g., lumpers/TONU); close loads promptly and resolve discrepancies; send a concise daily report.
• Own customer comms: Be the primary contact for status and schedule changes; proactively communicate delays and offer alternatives; collaborate with Sales/Operations to optimize lanes.
• Improve the workflow: Lead tight shift handovers, train/mentor new dispatchers, and flag recurring bottlenecks with clear process improvement suggestions.
Requirements
• Proven experience in freight dispatch, logistics coordination, or a similar role.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational abilities with keen attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems and Microsoft Office Suite (or Google Workspace).
• Thrives in a fast-paced environment and pivots quickly as priorities shift.
