Joyful Noise Child Development Centers is seeking a compassionate, responsive, and collaborative Support Staff member to join one of our PFA Preschool classrooms. This position will provide individualized support to a student in the classroom, ensuring the child can safely, equitably, and meaningfully participate in all aspects of their school day while also serving as an active member of the classroom teaching team.
The child’s safety and access will be the primary responsibility of this position, with support provided in a way that promotes belonging, independence, peer relationships, and full participation in the classroom community. This includes knowing when direct assistance is needed and when to step back, encourage independence, scaffold peer interactions, and create opportunities for natural connection and collaborative play.
The Support Staff member will also engage with and support other children whenever possible, helping ensure they are viewed as a trusted resource within the classroom rather than an adult assigned exclusively to one child. This intentional approach helps provide necessary individualized support without creating unnecessary dependence, separation, or barriers to peer relationships.
This position is part of Multnomah County's Preschool for All program and is subject to additional requirements, and is funded from September 2026 through June 2027 with the opportunity to reapply once the contract ends.
Education Requirements:
Must be at least a Step 4 on the Oregon Registry
NAEYC-accredited Joyful Noise Child Development Center has an opening for a dedicated, energetic teacher in the 3-4 year age group. You can expect a higher than industry average annual wage, dependent on education and position within the organization. Full-time positions are eligible for benefits, including medical, vision, dental, paid vacation and holidays (including your birthday!) and a discounted TriMet pass. We are also continually seeking positive, hardworking substitute teachers and support staff to be a part of our organization, with the potential to move into permanent teaching positions. Candidates must be local. Hourly wage is dependent on education level, position hired for, and ORO Step.
