POSITION: Outdoor Tourism Guide
PAY RATE: $17.00-$30.00/hr
JOB TYPE: Seasonal
This is a high-paying, fun, outdoor Guide position! You will earn great take home pay and this is a job that feels like fun time! We lead guests on scenic outdoor railroad rides on our Rail Cruisers – ensuring timely, super enjoyable tours, and a 5-star customer experience!
This is a fantastically fun job for people who enjoy being in the outdoors and love working with happy customers/tourists! Successful guides are comfortable working outside and in nature, physically active, outgoing, and have excellent customer service skills. Extensive training is provided. Advancement is also possible within the company, including management – Joy Rails prefers to promote from within.
Joy Rails is a tourism company providing top-tier outdoor recreation experiences. We connect the freedom of the outdoors and the magic of the railroad in a unique and fun activity that can be enjoyed by all ages.
Total pay is $27~/hr. Hourly base rate is $17/hr. In addition to your hourly pay, guides earn a great amount of tips! The average tips come out to $10/hr~. Combined with pay, can earn about $27~/hr or more. This is a GREAT paying, and super fun, entry level position!
Responsibilities:
- Giving tours on Rail Cruisers on 10-mile rides (4-5 tours per day).
- Greeting and ensuring customers have a great time!
- Safely rolling and manipulating Joy Rails vehicles on foot.
- Understanding emergency protocol, assessing situations clearly and quickly, and applying appropriate responses.
- Able to work in a team setting.
- Maintain a high level of positivity.
- Learn and maintain a high level of rail and road crossing safety and basic maintenance of Joy Rails vehicles - training provided.
- Checking in guests using an online booking system and selling merchandise - training provided.
- Speaking in front of guests - approximately 20-40 guests per tour,
Qualifications:
- Required: Ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Required: Ability to perform physical labor (lift a minimum of 75lbs).
- Required: Driver's License.
- Preferred: Customer service experience, 1-2 years.
- Preferred: Outdoor work experience, 1 year (or 1 season, if seasonal).
Joy Rails Operating Days:
Joy Rails is a seasonal outdoor tourism operation. We operate from May until November. Opening and closing dates will vary depending on customer volume and weather conditions.
- Starting at 4 days a week (Fri-Mon)
- Expanding to 5 Days/Week (Thursday - Monday)
- Schedule to possibly change depending on customer volume
