Summary
The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in implementing a high-quality early childhood curriculum. You will help manage classroom transitions, facilitate small-group activities, and ensure every child feels safe, valued, and encouraged to explore.
Duties
- Instructional Support & Engagement
- Assist in the implementation of lesson plans that target social-emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
- Lead small-group activities, such as storytime, sensory play, or art projects.
- Encourage curiosity and "learning through play" by asking open-ended questions.
- Support children as they learn to navigate social interactions, sharing, and empathy.
- Classroom Management & Safety
- Maintain a clean, organized, and stimulating environment that meets health and safety standards.
- Supervise children closely during indoor and outdoor play to ensure a "safety-first" atmosphere.
- Assist with routine transitions, such as moving from circle time to centers or preparing for nap time.
- Physical Care & Wellness
- Support children with personal care routines, including toileting, potty training (especially for the 2–3 age group), and handwashing.
- Assist with meal and snack times, ensuring dietary restrictions are followed and encouraging self-feeding skills.
- Observation & Communication
- Observe and document children’s progress and behaviors to share with the Lead Teacher.
- Maintain professional and friendly communication with parents during drop-off and pick-up.
- Collaborate with the teaching team to discuss individual student needs and classroom goals.
Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (CDA or coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred).
Experience: Previous experience working with children aged 2–5 in a licensed childcare or school setting
Certifications: Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification; background check clearances
Physical Req: Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, sit on the floor, and remain active throughout the day
Soft Skills: High level of patience, "warm" communication style, and a collaborative spirit.
