What are the responsibilities and job description for the Independent Living Skills Instructor position at JOURNEY TO THRIVE ILS?
ILS Instructor — Make a Real Difference, Every Day
Journey To Thrive Independent Living Services (JTT ILS) Part-Time | Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–7:30 PM | $19–$20/hour
About the Role
Journey To Thrive ILS is looking for a motivated, reliable ILS Instructor to join our team supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they build the skills they need to live independently and confidently.
This isn't a desk job. You'll be out in the community, one-on-one with individuals, teaching real-life skills using modern tools, hands-on practice, and teaching methods tailored to how each person learns best — visual, auditory, or hands-on. If you love seeing people grow and want a role where your work actually matters, this is it.
What You'll Be Doing
- Implementing individualized ILS curriculum and program goals
- Delivering one-on-one and group learning sessions to help individuals reach their IPP (Individual Program Plan) objectives
- Teaching practical life skills — cooking, budgeting, transportation, self-advocacy, safety, and more
- Tracking and documenting individual progress accurately and consistently
- Participating in assessments, planning meetings, and evaluations for the individuals you support
- Completing daily session notes/charting before clocking out each shift
- Completing 12 hours of in-service training annually
What You Need to Bring
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 1 year of experience working with children or adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and stay organized in the field
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain before start)
- Valid California driver's license, clean driving record, current auto insurance
- Reliable vehicle registered in your name (mileage reimbursed)
- Availability Monday–Friday within the 9:00 AM–7:30 PM window
Why JTT ILS
- Meaningful, hands-on work that directly changes lives
- Consistent weekday schedule — no nights, no weekends
- Supportive team environment with real training and growth opportunities
- Be part of a growing agency built on compliance, quality, and genuine care
Journey To Thrive ILS is a vendored Independent Living Skills provider through Alta California Regional Center (ACRC), committed to helping individuals with developmental disabilities gain the confidence and skills to live life on their own terms.
