Position Title:             DOJ Accredited Representative

Supervisor:                 Supervising Attorney or Program Coordinator 

Status:                         Full-time (35 hours per week), hourly, non-exempt

Journey’s End works to assist newly arriving refugees to find gainful employment and avoid dependency on social services. We are a community-based organization with the mission of providing refugees and immigrants with the resources and support they need to become successful, active and contributing members of our shared community. The Immigration Legal Services (ILS) Program offers immigration legal services to immigrant New Yorkers in need, including representation on matters before U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) and Buffalo Immigration Court.

Job Description:

The DOJ Accredited Representative will be employed full-time. They will provide direct service to refugee and immigrant clients and will also provide support to Staff Attorneys/ONA Legal Counsels. The DOJ Accredited Representative will assist in carrying out specific grant objectives and will work to advance the mission of Journey’s End Refugee Services. This position will primarily operate out of Journey’s End’s primary office location in Binghamton, NY.

Job Responsibilities

·      Provide direct representation on immigration cases before USCIS  

·      Assist attorneys in the organization and facilitation of legal consultation days, legal clinics, community information sessions, and Know Your Rights trainings across Western New York

·      Assist attorneys through preparation and research related to immigration filings with USCIS  

·      Provide intake to prospective clients seeking immigration legal services

·      Provide referrals to appropriate internal agency programs or partner agencies to meet law-related and other client needs

·      Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• DOJ Accreditation
• Previous relevant office experience (including filing, letter-drafting, data entry, completion of organizational tasks in a timely manner, etc.)
• Enthusiasm to work on a dynamic and fast-paced Rapid Response Project
• Able and willing to travel to counties throughout Western New York
• Ability to be part of a dedicated team of talented individuals
• Possess strong oral and written communication skills
