Job Goal: To positively impact student achievement within the school through participating in continuous school improvement efforts and by partnering with teachers to provide instructional coaching/modeling, training, and support aligned with the curriculum and based on the standards.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of a B.S Degree in Education
  2. Valid Alabama State Department of Education Teaching Certificate
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Principal or Appropriate Supervisor

 

Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  Background checks must not be more than 10 years old.

 

Required knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated success as a classroom teacher
  2. Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, best practices and instructional technology
  3. Knowledge of student academic growth and development applicable to the students' grade level
  4. Knowledge of school's program of studies related to mission, goals, and organization
  5. Strong leadership skills and capabilities of leading adult learners to produce student results and growth
  6. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory of instructional programs as well as best practices in classroom instruction
  7. Ability to analyze and interpret data
  8. Ability to create and facilitate professional development
  9. Ability to organize, plan, and take initiative to work independently and with teachers while exhibiting a high level of commitment to their responsibilities
  10. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with fellow teachers, students, administrators, district leaders, parents, and peers
  11. Skilled and effective in oral and written communication
  12. Ability to use and manage technology including, but not limited to e-mail, internet, Microsoft Office Programs, videos, professional social media, iPads, student learning sites, etc.
  13. Knowledge and understanding of the school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations
  14. Possess the physical and emotional ability to fulfill the expected employment

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Be a learner and stay abreast of current research
  2. Partner with and/or coach new and experienced teachers to deepen knowledge in instructional strategies/best practices related to core academic subjects as well as elective subjects
  3. Partner with teachers to develop student learning maps and units of study based on standards
  4. Work with teachers in the development of daily and weekly, as well as unit, lesson plans while incorporating best practices for ensuring student learning and growth
  5. Work collaboratively with school's leadership teams to design, implement, and assess school change initiatives to ensure alignment and focus on intended student results
  6. Partner with teachers to expand their use of a variety of resources to improve instruction including best practices and instructional technology
  7. Ensure that student achievement data (formative and summative) drives instructional decisions at the classroom and school level
  8. Model best instructional practices through actual classroom demonstrations, side by side with the teacher as well individually by the partner when needed
  9. Support standards implementation in all disciplines and at all grade levels
  10. Plan and implement staff development through team building, embedded professional development, and peer partnering/coaching
  11. Procure and provide resources and instructional support to administrators and teachers
  12. Facilitate school teams and other collaborative efforts that develop school culture and collective responsibility, teacher knowledge of content and students' cultures, and examining student work and learning development based on student data
  13. Act as a growth agent in the school to build a collaborative culture of learning among adults and students
  14. Establish and maintain a high level of rapport with other teachers, team leaders, department heads, district- level coordinators and/or program directors, and instructional support and service employees of the school district
  15. Demonstrate a positive and technically competent set of public relations skills including oral communication, written communication, and listening skills in group and one-on-one situations as necessary (Literacy Standards)
  16. Fulfill professional responsibilities beyond those exhibited in the classroom to include participation in school co-curricular programs, cross school collaboration with grade level alike schools as well as feeder patterns, school and district program improvement efforts, participation in community and parent groups and abide by and promote high ethical standards
  17. Participate in Professional Development activities leading toward enhancing professional qualification
  18. Ensure confidentiality in all communications with teachers and administrators
  19. Participate in school-level planning, school and district level teams, faculty meetings/ committees and other school system groups
  20. Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations
  • This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
  • Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.

 

Expected Employment: 187 days (full year)

Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.

 

Salary: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year)
