Journey Center for Safety and Healing is a non-profit organization that fosters safety and healing for those affected by domestic violence and child abuse, and prevents abuse through education, advocacy, and systemic change. Journey Center is seeking a full-time Finance Accountant with a focus on Accounts Payable to work within the Finance Department. The staff Accountant is responsible for conducting bookkeeping activities related to the maintenance of general accounting records, including, but not limited to, accounts payable, client billing, grant reporting, and the preparation of grant reimbursement requests.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Code and enter accounts payable daily. Prepare weekly accounts payable reports.
  2. Track and allocate various benefits and enter them into MIP for the monthly closing
  3. Help maintain all contractual/maintenance service agreement files
  4. Maintain all vendor/credit files
  5. Make copies of AP check stubs and backup documentation for grant reporting
  6. Pickup and open mail
  7. Take deposits to the bank
  8. Assist in general ledger account reconciliation
  9. Prepare specified grant reimbursement reports to be submitted to funding sources and maintain a running total of funds used and funds available to ensure complete use of funds awarded. Notify supervisors regularly of the funds available for each grant. Prepare any budget, budget revisions, or adjustments for the Accounting Manager to review.
  10. Prepare month-end journal entries. Post journal entries into the General Ledger and provide supporting documentation for the month-end close
  11. Assist with annual audit and any fiscal monitoring visits
  12. Participates in appropriate agency meetings


ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  2. Complete agency orientation and training to meet job requirements
  3. Assumes other responsibilities and duties as directed or assigned


QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Minimum of a high school diploma with thorough knowledge of bookkeeping or accounting required
  2. Experience working in a general accounting department required
  3. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred
  4. Good working knowledge of government and foundation grants or medical billing offices preferred
  5. Must be available for extended and non-traditional hours
  6. Must have and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license and appropriate insurance coverage; Must maintain an appropriate driving record


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics

  1. Computer skills with Excel, Word, database management, e-mail, fax, and Windows application capabilities. Knowledge of MIP, or Fund Accounting software, and the ADP payroll platform is a plus
  2. Ability to read grant proposals and reporting requirements
  3. Ability to set up and/or maintain administrative files in compliance with sound business practices, appropriate recordkeeping, confidentiality guidelines, funding sources, etc.
  4. Ability to work harmoniously with others
  5. Ability to perform job duties with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment
  6. Ability to learn and carry out the rules, regulations, functions, procedures, organization, and policies governing the operations of Journey Center
  7. Ability to analyze problems and develop a plan of action/correction
  8. Ability to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks, and consistently meet deadlines
  9. Emotional maturity, stability, personal integrity, initiative, and resourcefulness
  10. Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with staff, board members, accrediting bodies, grantors, funding bodies, clients, volunteers, and the public; Good written and verbal communication skills
  11. Problem-solving skills are critical
  12. Dependable and reliable in the completion of duties in a timely manner
  13. Commitment to child abuse and domestic violence prevention
  14. Experience in and commitment to building and supporting trauma-informed organizations
  15. Maintain a positive attitude
  16. Thorough knowledge of rules, regulations, functions, procedures, organization, and policies governing the operations of Journey Center for Safety and Healing
  17. Ability to incorporate Journey Center’s Values into assigned duties

Salary : $40,000 - $45,000
