What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program and Event Manager position at Journalistic Development Matrix?
The Mission: At JDM, we believe that student journalists are the front line of the tomorrow's journalism landscape. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we provide Oregon high schoolers with the legal resources, scholarships, and professional-grade production gear they need to do real, impactful reporting.
The Role: We are seeking an ambitious, persistent, and detail-focused individual to join our team as our volunteer Program and Event Manager. If you enjoy the thrill of the ask, the logistics of event production, and the satisfaction of a successful fundraiser, this is in your wheelhouse. You’ll be helping us architect a variety of charitable fundraising and outreach events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning and execution of JDM’s upcoming events and programs.
- Help curate and solicit high-value items for auctions, raffles, and educational programs.
- Assist in identifying future event opportunities that align with our gear loan pilot program and scholarship outreach.
- Help recruit and manage a team of volunteers for day-of event operations.
What You Get Out Of It:
- A title that carries weight and quantifiable results (dollars raised, attendees managed).
- Direct interaction and networking opportunities with JDM’s board, donors, and the broader Oregon media/education community.
- A front-row seat to the logistics of nonprofit management and theatrical-level event production.
Requirements:
- A pulse.
- Excellent communication skills.
- A passion for journalism.
- Preference for those currently enrolled in journalism, education, or business programs looking for a substantial portfolio piece.
- Previous nonprofit or event management experience is not required.
