Pay Range: $175,000 to $190,000 annually
Overview
The Hollywood Roosevelt is an iconic, independent, and historic hotel in the heart of Hollywood. We are seeking a Director of Human Resources who can provide steady leadership, sound judgment, and strong support to our team members and leaders.
This role is responsible for leading all areas of Human Resources, including employee relations, recruitment, benefits, payroll coordination, training and development, labor relations, compliance, recognition programs, and HR budgeting. The Director of Human Resources will partner closely with the General Manager, Executive Committee, department leaders, corporate partners, ownership, and team members.
What You Will Do
- Partner with the General Manager and Executive Committee on organizational structure, staffing strategy, leadership development, and culture.
- Lead employee relations matters with professionalism, confidentiality, and consistency.
- Oversee recruitment, selection, onboarding, orientation, and retention programs for hotel team members.
- Manage HR policies, procedures, and employee guidebook updates to support a compliant and respectful workplace.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor and employment laws, including wage and hour requirements, leaves of absence, workplace safety, and other hotel-related employment obligations.
- Oversee employee relations matters and support leadership in maintaining strong communication with team members.
- Partner with Finance on payroll administration, HR budgeting, and cost controls that may impact the hotel’s bottom line.
- Administer and support benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, workers’ compensation, COBRA, disability, and 401(k).
- Develop and support learning and development programs for managers and team members.
- Drive performance review, succession planning, recognition, and progressive discipline processes in a fair and consistent manner.
- Organize team member programs and meetings, including town halls, roundtables, recognition events, and other engagement activities.
- Stay informed of local and national employment trends and laws that may affect the hotel’s work environment.
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum of 10 years of Human Resources management experience, preferably in a hotel environment.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience managing Human Resources in a high-volume property with multiple food and beverage outlets.
- Strong knowledge of hotel operations and the ability to work effectively with all departments.
- Strong knowledge of federal, California, and local employment laws and HR best practices.
- Experience handling employee relations, investigations, performance management, and progressive discipline.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and high-touch environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members and managers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and a high level of discretion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and HR systems.
- Ability to interact with team members, managers, executives, corporate partners, and ownership with professionalism and confidence.
- Four-year college degree preferred, ideally with an emphasis in Human Resources, Hospitality Management, Business, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a lifestyle, luxury, or independent hotel environment.
- Spanish language skills are a plus.
- Experience creating training materials and facilitating learning and development programs.
- Experience leading mid-level to senior-level management programs.
