Nelson Media Company is seeking a driven, community-focused Newspaper Editor to lead editorial operations for the Journal-Eureka and The Linn News—two respected weekly newspapers with a strong following and deep-rooted history in their communities.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands local journalism and takes pride in producing high-quality, relevant, and engaging content each week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Balance and manage weekly editorial content across both newspapers
- Assign stories and coordinate coverage with staff writers and freelancers
- Cover local news, including government meetings, schools, businesses, and community events
- Ensure consistent, accurate, and AP-style writing across all content
- Manage deadlines and oversee the weekly production cycle
- Work closely with design and operations teams to produce a polished final product
- Build relationships within the communities to strengthen coverage and trust
Qualifications:
- Prior newspaper experience is required
- Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and publications simultaneously
- Passion for local journalism and storytelling
- Self-motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented
