Microbiologist I

Position Summary:

Our client is seeking a Microbiologist I to join its Microbiology & Environmental Monitoring team within the Quality department. This full-time, entry-level exempt position supports lab operations, environmental monitoring (EM), and microbiological testing for sterile and non-sterile drug products. The role is ideal for candidates with 0–2 years of relevant experience in a pharmaceutical or cosmetic cGMP lab setting.

Responsibilities:

 

• 
  

  Perform EM in aseptic manufacturing areas (air, surface, gowning sampling)

  
  
  
• 
  

  Collect, incubate, and trend viable and non-viable samples

  
  
  
• 
  

  Conduct water testing (WFI, RO, purified water) and compressed gas monitoring

  
  
  
• 
  

  Perform bacterial endotoxin testing, bioburden, microbial limits, gram staining, and growth promotion

  
  
  
• 
  

  Submit samples for ID and testing to internal or external labs

  
  
  
• 
  

  Assist with autoclave operation and basic lab sanitation

  
  
  
• 
  

  Enter data into Excel for trending and compliance documentation

  
  
  
• 
  

  Support general lab operations and prepare for audits

  
  
  
• 
  

  Ok to travel locally between Piscataway and South Plainfield locations as needed (1x per week on occasion- once trained)

  
  
  
  
  

  Requirements:

  
  
  
  
  
  • 
    

    0–2 years of hands-on microbiology lab experience in pharma or cosmetics (food background not preferred)

    
    
    
  • 
    

    Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related scientific field

    
    
    
  • 
    

    Familiarity with aseptic technique and GMP/GLP concepts

    
    
    
  • 
    

    Basic knowledge of EM, bioburden, or water testing

    
    
    
  • 
    

    Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn

    
    
    
  • 
    

    Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word

      Internship or academic lab experience in a regulated setting

      
      
      
    • 
      

      Exposure to Veeva Vault or similar documentation systems
