MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
The Senior Designer – Furniture & Drapery is a key contributor within the Design Studio, combining advanced technical expertise with strong product ownership.
This position balances Custom Upholstered Furniture and Drapery & Window Treatments.
The Senior Designer leads complex projects from design development through production documentation, ensuring aesthetic integrity, technical feasibility, and alignment with Jouffre’s quality standards.
This role requires a high degree of autonomy, strong collaboration with Project Managers and production teams, and a structured approach to product development and continuous improvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES & MISSIONS
Furniture Design & Development
Creative & Technical Development
Translate interior designers’ concepts into technically resolved, production-ready upholstered furniture
Lead design development with strong understanding of proportions, ergonomics, comfort, and fabrication logic
Anticipate construction constraints and proactively propose intelligent technical solutions
Ensure coherence between aesthetic intent and workshop feasibility
Advanced 3D Modeling & Technical Documentation
Produce advanced 3D models in Rhino with clean, production-oriented geometry
Generate detailed shop drawings for internal workshop and external partners
Develop and maintain drawing standards and documentation clarity
Oversee mock-ups and prototypes, validating design adjustments before production
Quality & Design Integrity
Serve as technical referent for craftsmen during production
Review and validate dimensions, proportions, and fabrication details
Safeguard design intent throughout the production process
Participate actively in project and production planning meetings
Drapery & Window Treatments
Technical Studies & Documentation
Analyze client drawings and specifications to assess technical feasibility
Develop detailed technical drawings (plans, sections, elevations) for curtains and shades
Prepare clear and structured fabrication instructions for seamstresses
Ensure documentation accuracy prior to production launch
Costing Collaboration
Contribute to technical studies supporting accurate estimates
Assist Project Managers in evaluating material quantities, fabrication complexity, and time implications
Ensure alignment between technical decisions and budget parameters
Creative Contribution
Participate in the development of refined drapery solutions aligned with Jouffre’s aesthetic standards
Propose technical improvements to enhance functionality, fluidity, and detailing
Contribute to internal samples and displays when required
Product Management
As a Senior Designer, you take ownership beyond design execution.
Ensure projects meet Jouffre’s technical, aesthetic, and quality standards
Maintain design integrity while balancing feasibility and efficiency
Collaborate closely with Project Managers to monitor project progression
Identify risks early and propose corrective solutions
Contribute to structured project documentation and data organization
Maintain organized 3D model and drawing databases
Support studio planning by managing priorities across multiple concurrent projects
This role requires the ability to see projects holistically — from concept validation to workshop handover — while maintaining precision in execution.
Continuous Improvement
The Senior Designer actively contributes to the evolution of the Design Studio.
Refine internal technical standards and drawing methodologies
Improve documentation processes and production handover clarity
Develop internal guidelines for furniture and drapery detailing
Research innovative materials, techniques, and fabrication methods
Contribute to the development of Jouffre’s craft and material offerings
Elevate digital workflows (3D modeling optimization, prototyping processes)
Share knowledge and mentor junior designers
This position is expected to strengthen studio structure and elevate collective expertise.
PROFILE
We are looking for a senior-level designer who combines aesthetic sensitivity with strong technical rigor and structured thinking.
You are autonomous, solution-oriented, and comfortable managing complex projects in a fast-paced, high-end environment.
Experience & Education
6–8 years of professional experience in custom furniture and/or window treatments
Degree in Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Interior Architecture, or related field
Experience in high-end residential or hospitality projects
Experience collaborating closely with workshops or fabrication teams
Technical Expertise
Advanced proficiency in Rhino (Grasshopper a plus)
Strong understanding of upholstery construction and drapery fabrication logic
Experience producing highly detailed technical shop drawings
Solid knowledge of materials, finishes, and fabrication techniques
Strong documentation and file organization standards
Familiarity with costing logic and production constraints
