Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Private Caregiver to work 12 hour day shifts from 8am to 8pm and to provide exceptional, personalized care to an individual with advanced muscular dystrophy (Friedreichs ataxia) in a home setting. This vital role involves supporting the client with daily activities, health monitoring, and emotional well-being, ensuring they live comfortably and with dignity. The ideal candidate will bring energy, empathy, and a proactive approach to caregiving, creating a positive environment that promotes independence and quality of life. Must have reliable transportation to bring to appointments and social activities, must be willing to care for a dog, and must able to transfer client.
Duties
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using proper patient transfer methods such as Hoyer lifts and manual handling techniques. Must be able to transfer 180 lbs.
- Monitor patients’ blood sugar and vital signs regularly and observe for any changes in health or behavior, documenting findings accurately in care plans
- Administer medications and assist the use of vital medical machinery as prescribed, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and safety protocols
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with feeding when necessary
- Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance mental well-being
- Support clients during medical appointments or outings by providing personal transportation assistance and ensuring safety throughout
- Maintain a clean, safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning and laundry
Requirements
- Proven experience working as a caregiver in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health settings
- Knowledge of patient observation techniques and ability to recognize signs of distress or deterioration
- Medication administration and vital signs monitoring experience preferred but not required
- Ability to handle physical tasks such as heavy lifting and resident transfers safely using appropriate patient transfer methods like Hoyer lifts
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, healthcare professionals, and team members
- Commitment to maintaining HIPAA compliance and respecting client confidentiality at all times
- Experience working with diverse populations including geriatrics, neurodevelopmental disorders, or hospice care is highly desirable
