Description
Communications Systems Assistant installs, maintains and performs component-level diagnostics and repair of communications (two-way radio) and computer hardware and software of the County. Performs installation, maintenance and repair of other County electronic equipment as required. Maintains records of all activities as required. Participates in analyzing user needs and requirements. Installs, maintains and performs component-level diagnostics and repair of communications (two-way radio) equipment for other governmental agencies on a contractual basis. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Facilities Services Director, who reviews work on the basis of results attained.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Position requires general knowledge of electronic communications systems, testing and related equipment; Federal, State and County rules and regulations that govern communications activities; Oregon codes concerning telecommunications and data wiring practices; and recordkeeping. Ability to use personal computers and email.
Education And Experience
High school graduation or equivalency or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above described duties.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License; safe driving record and current automobile insurance.

- Install, maintain and repair electronic equipment to include two-way radios, microwave radio equipment, two-way radio console equipment, close circuit television cameras, and public address systems.
- Order parts and equipment necessary for electronic repairs.
- Perform communications system testing to ensure equipment complies with technical standards.
- Determine and resolve malfunctions within existing communications equipment.
- Schedule appointments, determine priorities, and establish general work plans.
- Assure a safe working environment is maintained in project work areas.
- Completes necessary documentation in computer software program.
- Other duties as assigned.
