What are the responsibilities and job description for the optometric technician position at Joseph Audia, OD?
This part time position is approximately 21 hours per week. It would be on Monday & Wednesday during patient care and one other week day in support of the practice. The third day will be determined as you train. This position is in our Harrisville office.
We maintain an office in Salem. You may be offered time there to cover staff time off or during emergencies.
Previous health care and / or eye care experience are not a requirement. Employment with us is not a job but a career. This position is involved primarily with screening patients for examination by our doctor and including the use of specialized equipment including but not limited to:
TECHNICIAN PHASE 1 (initial training)
- Interviewing / screening the patient
- Preparing the medical record for the doctors examination
- Lensometery (check prescription of eyeglasses)
- Contact lens training & dispensing
- Attaining prior authorizations for prescription medications
- Cleaning exam rooms between patient encounters
- Restocking Exam Room supplies
- Weekly count and report on levels of exam related supply
- Review and responding to medication refill requests
TECHNICIAN PHASE 2 (after mastering the above these skills will be added)
- Tear Lab & Inflammadry
- Visual Field Analysis
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
- Digital Ocular Photography
- Electrodiagnostic Testing (ERG & VEP)
- Corneal Pachymetry
- Assisting on Prior Authorization Requests
Candidate may also assist with:
- Billing patients / Posting payments
- Insurance Billing / Electronic Billing / Assisting with reprocessing of overdue Insurance claims
- Frame Styling, Adjustment & Repair
- Appointment scheduling
- Exam room and general office cleaning
Summary
In the role of a optometric technician, you will be integral to delivering high-quality patient care in an office setting. Reporting to the lead technician, you will learn core skills in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to assist with patient intake and eye vital sign assessments. You will develop skills in HIPAA compliance and exam room hygiene techniques will ensure a safe environment for patients. Additionally, you will gain experience with EMR systems and medical billing to support efficient office operations.
