Compensation: $65 - 75/hourly rate Performance Bonus
Anticipated Performance Dates: 07/01/2026 to 03/31/2027 (Duration may be longer if phase II funding is secured)

Jore Industries, Inc. is headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama. We are designing and deploying AI-driven scientific platforms with a focus on materials discovery, methodology validation, and secure architecture.
This Senior Machine Learning Engineer role is a foundational position at Jore Industries, leading the AI/ML implementation of our designed computational platform for AI-driven materials discovery. You will work directly with the founding team and internationally recognized scientific Co-Principal Investigators to translate a fully-specified architecture into a working platform.
- Design, train, and deploy graph neural network models for materials property prediction with rigorous uncertainty quantification
- Develop generative models (variational autoencoders, diffusion architectures, or equivalent) for materials design problems
- Build Bayesian optimization and active learning frameworks for multi-objective materials screening campaigns
- Integrate large language models into scientific computing workflows with appropriate scope controls and federally-compliant provider routing
- Develop Python-based interfaces and orchestration logic between machine learning components and open-source density functional theory (DFT) codes
- Establish ML training pipelines, experiment tracking, model versioning, and reproducibility infrastructure within a federally-compliant cloud environment
- Collaborate with senior scientific Co-Principal Investigators on methodology reviews to ensure ML implementations align with rigorous computational materials science principles
- Produce technical documentation suitable for federal compliance audit and platform expansion
Education: PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computational Materials Science, Computational Chemistry, Physics, or related technical field; OR Master's degree with 5 years of equivalent industry experience
Machine Learning Experience:
- Hands-on experience training and deploying graph neural networks at production scale (PyTorch Geometric, DGL, or equivalent)
- Experience with generative models including variational autoencoders and/or diffusion architectures
- Bayesian optimization experience (BoTorch, Ax, GPyTorch, or equivalent)
- Uncertainty quantification methods (Monte Carlo dropout, deep ensembles, Gaussian processes, or equivalent)
- LLM integration and prompt engineering at production scale
Engineering Capability:
- Strong Python proficiency including ML frameworks (PyTorch, NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn)
- Experience with cloud-native ML deployment (Azure ML, AWS SageMaker, GCP Vertex AI, or equivalent)
- Experience with containerized ML workflows (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with experiment tracking and ML reproducibility (MLflow, Weights & Biases, or equivalent)
Communication and Collaboration:
- Ability to communicate ML concepts clearly to scientific Co-Principal Investigators including discussing tradeoffs and methodological choices
- Strong written documentation skills for federal compliance audit purposes
- Comfort working in a distributed team environment with regular video conferencing and asynchronous collaboration
Citizenship/Authorization: Must be U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident eligible for federal compliance work
