Position Summary
The Billing Specialist is a key member of the Accounting team and is responsible for managing high‑volume legal billing activities, including paper and electronic billing, for assigned attorneys and clients. This role requires strong attention to detail, accountability, and the ability to meet firm and client billing deadlines in a fast‑paced environment. Training will be provided.
This is a full‑time, benefits‑eligible, in‑office position based in the Firm’s New Orleans office.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate end‑to‑end billing processes for assigned attorneys and clients
- Perform pre‑bill review and editing, including time and expense transfers and narrative edits
- Generate, post, and distribute client invoices in accordance with firm and client requirements
- Establish and maintain matter billing information, including client guidelines and approved rates
- Enter, update, and retrieve billing data within the firm’s billing systems
- Format and generate standard and ad hoc billing reports
- Process special billing arrangements, including task‑based billing and alternative fee arrangements
- Manage electronically billed matters, including invoice submissions, appeals, and follow‑up on rejections or reductions
- Research and resolve billing inquiries from attorneys, legal assistants, and clients
- Ensure confidentiality and accuracy of sensitive client and financial information
- Participate in process improvements, documentation, and special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Aptitude for working with numbers and learning billing systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or relevant work experience
- Prior legal billing experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Aderant or similar legal billing systems
