Statement of Purpose:
Operates radiologic equipment, processes images, and prepares patient’s room, equipment, supplies and medications. Coordinates and performs quality diagnostic images for the patients of Jones Memorial Hospital.
MAJOR TASKS AND DUTIES
The following description of job responsibilities and standards is intended to reflect the major responsibilities and duties of the job, but is not intended to describe minor or other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
- Performs duties of a Radiologic Staff Technologist.
a) Translates physician’s orders into appropriate X-ray procedures, including preparing and positioning patient for examination and operating X-ray equipment in a proper and safe manner.
- In addition to (1) above, this position also performs the following duties:
a. Performs duties of CAT Scan Technologist
- Translate doctor’s orders, or radiologist’s protocol, into appropriate CAT scan procedures, including preparing and positioning patient for examination and operating CAT scan equipment in a proper and safe manner.
- Works within the ACR Accreditation guidelines.
- Identifies each patient and reviews each patient's requisition, either hard copy or in computer system, for consistency of examination ordered and all demographic information. Translates doctor’s orders into appropriate radiology procedures.
- Prepares and positions patient correctly for each examination following precise procedures for exposure. Selects, identifies, and exposes images. Ensures proper film identification with lead markers on all images.
- Operates radiologic equipment to make radiographs of designated portions of the body. Operates a portable machine and takes films at bedside and in surgery.
- Prepares and under the direction of a Radiologist, may administer to the patient the opaque media required by various examination such as gastrointestinal, intravenous pyelography, barium enemas, etc.
- Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences and records the patient’s condition. Records pertinent data in PACS and or Medical Record system at all times. (Patient history, explanation for limited exam)
- Assists Radiologist in appropriate Special Procedures including preparing and positioning patient, working knowledge of angiographic or interventional procedures and techniques and operating special procedure equipment in a proper and safe manner.
- Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to radiologist, and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
- Keeps equipment, accessories, and work area clean.
- May keep inventories of supplies used in Radiology
- Performs "receptionist duties" and "transporter" responsibilities as required.
- Occasionally uses assistance of one or several subordinate sides or helpers in same department to perform tasks.
- Develops and/or supervises the analysis of patient information and interpretation of data to provide an appropriate plan and intervention specific for age related needs and provisions of care.
- The Technologist demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.
- The Technologist possess the ability to assess the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs as per department policies and procedures.
- Proficient use of Epic, PACS system, PACS Cube, Powershare and MyPath.
- The duties of the second shift technologist include:
- Communication with the assigned Radiologist to obtain image interpretation when required.
- The duties of the third shift technologist include:
- Completion of the Night Shift Duties Check Sheet
- The third shift technologist scheduled from Sunday-Thursday will be responsible to complete the Department QA Check Sheet.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Arrives for work on time and as scheduled.
2) Able to work 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift.
3) Able to work weekend shifts and holidays.
4) Able to work double shifts.
5) Able to work overtime as needed as well as on-call/back up call duty.
6) Can report to Jones Memorial Hospital within 30 minutes or less from time you receive call for on-call/back up call duty.
7) Understands that schedules are subject to change with limited notice to meet the demands of the patients, the department, and the hospital.
EDUCATION: High School or equivalent plus satisfactory completion from an accredited school of radiologic technology as approved by the ARRT. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic technologist and licensed by the New York State Department of Health required. Maintains professional licensures and appropriate CEU requirements as required by ARRT, NYSDOH and Joint Commission. Current BLS/CPR certification is preferred, if injection certified CPR is required.
EXPERIENCE: One month.
CONTACTS: Frequent contact with patients, patient’s families, practitioners, nursing personnel, service engineers, physicist, other employees, and any other personnel that might be in the medical imaging department.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: . Ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance reach stoop, and bend while maintaining good mechanical body position. .Ability to wear protective lead aprons and lead gloves during examinations. Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, read monitors, document and hear equipment alarms.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Subject to electrical and radiation hazards. Exposure to electromagnetic radiation. Exposure to blood, body tissues, or fluids. Walking and standing 90 percent of the time. Office environment 10 percent of the time.
