Jones HR Consulting is recruiting for an Automation Controls Technician for our client, Lampe & Malphrus Lumber Company.
We're seeking a skilled and proactive Controls Automation Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining our automated control systems to ensure the smooth, continuous operation of the plant. This role requires a strong understanding of industrial automation and the ability to work independently and as part of a team to solve complex problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, troubleshoot, and debug Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to optimize system performance and resolve operational issues.
- Diagnose and repair electrical systems, ranging from 4-20 mA signals up to 480V 3-phase power.
- Work with a variety of automation sensors, including photo eyes, proximity sensors, encoders, and pressure transducers (both analog and digital).
- Program and troubleshoot SCADA and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems using software like FactoryTalk View and Studio 5000.
- Manage and maintain Allen Bradley PLC control hardware and software, including RSLogix 500 and Studio 5000.
- Collaborate with team members and outside vendors to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
- Organize and maintain program files and documentation, ensuring all changes are properly logged and accessible.
- Provide after-hours support as needed to address critical issues with 24/7 operating equipment.
- Work extended hours during critical projects or maintenance periods.
- Communicate effectively with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) support to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems (4-20 mA to 480V 3-phase).
- Experience with various automation sensors.
- Familiarity with SCADA and HMI hardware/software.
- Proficiency with Allen Bradley PLC hardware and software.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment and be on-call as required.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Allen Bradley VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) hardware and software.
- Knowledge of industrial networking protocols (LAN, TCP/IP, DNS, etc.).
- Proficiency in reading electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagrams.
- Experience with NVR and industrial camera systems.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Experience operating industrial equipment such as manlifts, forklifts, or scissor lifts.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb stairs and navigate equipment as required.
- Must have and be willing to use your own professional tools.

Pay: $29.11 - $35.06 per hour
