Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (Education, Adult Education, or related field preferred)
- Transcript(s) is required on file at the local director’s office
- All instructors hired must pass the Mississippi Adult Education competency test
- All new instructors must attend the New Teacher Academy to learn basic instructional competencies and prepare for the state competency test.
- Applicant must complete and pass a full background check.
- Two or more years of teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to teach math, language, reading, science, and social studies on varying levels
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Demonstrate sufficient ability to deliver online instruction using multiple methods
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to accuracy, details, and deadlines
- Genuine interest in helping people
- Ability to establish rapport with students from diverse backgrounds
- Self-motivated with the ability to multitask and meet multiple simultaneous demands
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide instruction in literacy; adult education; HSE test preparation; family literacy; workforce preparation; integrated education and training, including career pathways; and workplace education, including National Career Readiness Certificate and Smart Start Pathway instruction
- Use instructional strategies, learning practices, and tools appropriate to the needs of the student
- Use lesson plans that integrate instruction across content areas
- Provide continuous feedback and adjust instruction to maximize student learning
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and evaluate curriculum and materials aligned with CCRS
- Maintain accurate daily progress and attendance records for each student, and submit forms timely
- Maintain a minimum enrollment of 10 active students during each classroom instructional period
- Administer, score, and interpret results for the TABE and HSE Official Practice Tests
- Participate in the retention and follow-up of students
- Assist students in pursuing their personal career and educational goals
- Maintain knowledge of program guidelines, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Provide a classroom environment that is conducive to a positive learning experience while promoting positive self-concepts
- Recruit AE students on a continuous basis following all Jones College guidelines
- Participate in required professional development activities
