POSITION: SPEECH / LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services

POSITION GOAL:   Provide screening, assessment and direct service to students who demonstrate delays or disorders in the areas of receptive and expressive language, fluency, articulation and voice.  Provide instruction and consultative services to school personnel in the areas of intervention to meet the specific needs of students.

CERTIFICATION: - Masters Degree in Speech / Language Pathology

  • Certification as Speech / Language Pathologist from the Ohio Board of Speech and Language Pathology and Audiology
  • School Speech and language Pathologist License from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

TERMS OF 

EMPLOYMENT:    One hundred and eighty four days.  Compensation on Teacher Salary Schedule.

1. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1.01 Assists in observing, describing and referring students with suspected speech and language 

Impairments

1.02 Assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice and language impairments

1.03 Screen children to identify speech delays at regular intervals

1.04 Serve as member of MTSS Team, IEP and ETR teams

1.05 Perform hearing screenings for all referred students

1.06 Prepare and implement lesson plans based on IEP goals

1.07 Collaborate with parents to provide information and support including notification if a student is not 

meeting goals/objectives.

1.08 Provide carryover activities to classrooms and homes

1.09  Complete and interpret appropriate documents and reports as directed by supervisor

            1.10 Schedule, conduct and/ or participate in ETR and IEP meetings, as appropriate (e.g. schedule and 

conduct as case manager, participate as related service provider) 

1.11  Adhere to law, policies and procedures for special education services

1.12 Develop, coordinate and maintain daily schedule of services as indicated on IEPs

1.13 Refer and consult with outside agencies, supervisors, and specialists in related areas

1.14 Provide in-service education to staff and parents on speech and hearing topics

1.15 Serve as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech 

improvement

1.16 Punctual and comprehensive in the submission of all special education documents

1.17 Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective use of ongoing 

communication, progress reports, and conferences. 

1.18 Participate in parent/teacher conferences as appropriate

2.02 Demonstrates willingness to keep abreast of current trends in education (attends workshops, college 

courses, in-services, and reading journals)

2.04 Possesses diagnostic interpretation skills in the areas of voice analysis, fluency rates, 

articulation/phonological assessment, language assessments, audiological testing, psychological 

assessments, and educational testing

2.05 Maintains knowledge of state and local rules governing special education

2.06 Adheres to school curriculum

2.07 Properly operates and cares for equipment and materials

2.08 Is punctual in attendance (i.e. work days and meetings) and attends work regularly

2.09 Completes professional goals

2.10 Properly prepares for substitute

2.11 Follows policies and procedures of school district

2.12 Strives to be a model in oral and written communication

2.13 Contributes to district improvement through committee participation

3.  INSTRUCTIONAL COMPETENCY

3.01  Skillful in the use of motivational techniques

3.02  Maintains accurate and complete documentation on delivery of services and individual student 

progress toward goals 

3.03  Uses a variety of instructional materials and methods

3.04 Presentation of lesson is well organized

3.05     Thoroughly understands and displays a knowledge of the subject matter

3.06  Maximizes use of therapy time

3.07 Establishes and promotes a warm, friendly, and helpful classroom atmosphere

3.08 Is reasonable, fair and impartial with students
