The Pantry Operations Associate is responsible for the daily operation and oversight of the food pantry, including supervision of pantry staff and volunteers. This position coordinates food donation pickups and deliveries through the Feeding America program and maintains relationships with store managers and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York.

Hourly Rate of Pay: $18.50

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all consumers/clients in accordance with JCEO policies and mission.

 

  • Coordinates the pickup and/or receipt of food donations from countywide programs including: Walmart, Sam’s Club, Target, Price Chopper, schools, churches, and other community organizations.

 

  • Completes and submits in-kind donation logs monthly to the Community Outreach Program Director.

 

  • Maintains regular contact with local grocers to arrange pickup of baked goods and SHARE Food Program items as scheduled.

 

  • Completes client intake in the CAPTAIN (Client Tracking Database) for households requesting emergency food and refers them to appropriate services when needed.

 

  • Maintains accurate and timely Meal Connect donation tracking records.

 

  • Submits required monthly reports as directed by the Community Outreach Program Director.

 

  • Monitors and maintains pantry inventory to ensure an adequate food supply for all outreach locations and the main office pantry.

 

  • Drives the Agency box truck to pick up food donations from stores and local businesses as needed.

 

  • Stocks the food pantry daily; ensures proper rotations and storage of dry, refrigerated, and frozen foods, and checks expiration dates for food safety.

 

  • Oversees and supports proper use of food scrap compost bins; ensures they are filled and prepared for pickup by the local waste management service and pig farmer.

 

  • Cleans and maintains pantry areas, stock rooms, waiting rooms, refrigeration units, and freezers in compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations.

 

  • Travel required within service areas.
  • Attends all required staff meetings and training.

 

  • Performs all duties in alignment with the mission and goals of the Joint Council for Economic Opportunity.

 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree preferred.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.



CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSES
Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license

This position requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification within the first 30 days of hire. Re-certification will be required as specified by DOT guidelines. Please not that the cost of the certificate exam only will be covered by JCEO, but any additional associated costs (e.g. medical evaluations or appointments) will be the responsibility of the employee.
