THE POSITION:

The Behavioral Intervention Specialist is responsible for providing tiered, trauma-informed behavioral support to K–12 students in the Hope School Project. This role collaborates with educators, administrators, families, and support teams to engage students in strength-based planning, foster positive coping skills, and implement individualized behavior support strategies. The Behavioral Intervention Specialist models restorative practices, advocates for students, and provides coaching and consultation to school staff. This position requires a flexible, collaborative, and eager-to-learn professional committed to supporting youth impacted by trauma.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect data based on Functional Behavior Assessments and provide support using neurobiologically and trauma-responsive strategies.
  • Collaborate with students to identify replacement behaviors and build coping, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Provide in-classroom modeling, coaching, and consultation to educators on trauma-informed practices and behavioral interventions.
  • Offer direct student support during behavioral incidents and facilitate restorative conversations and planning.
  • Monitor student progress by collecting data, assessing the effectiveness of interventions, and modifying plans as needed.
  • Support the implementation of classroom-based social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons and behavioral teaching strategies.
  • Provide supervision and regulation support in various school settings, including during transitions and non-classroom time.
  • Collaborate with the Team to refer students to appropriate school or community-based supports when additional services are required.
  • Build and maintain positive rapport with students from diverse backgrounds, with sensitivity to socio-economic challenges.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of students and the mission of the Hope School Project.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 21 Years of age. 
  • Registered Behavioral Technician or other Behavioral certification 
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a public school setting
  • Minimum 3 years of school-based or behavioral intervention experience.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and positive behavioral supports.
  • Effective leadership and interpersonal communication skills.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Basic knowledge of Google and other database programs
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including but not limited to: computers, telephone systems, calculators, and copiers
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Flexibility, reliability, and self-motivation
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, interpersonal skills, and strong communication
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands

The demands described are representative of those that must be met by an individual to perform the essential functions of this position successfully.

  • Tasks may involve walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and lifting for long periods of time both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to lift at least 20 pounds.
  • Must pass all criminal history and child maltreatment background checks.
  • Must submit to pre-employment a drug screen as well as random drug screens when directed.
  • Valid driver's license, proof of personal automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record required to drive shelter vehicles for shelter business.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and privacy regarding all Children’s information in accordance with Everhope policy and all applicable Federal and state laws/regulations.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory training, staff meetings, and all other events, as required.
  • Set, maintain, and communicate appropriate personal and professional boundaries.
  • Complete all required documentation in a timely manner per Everhope procedures.
