What are the responsibilities and job description for the Line Service Technician Level 1 position at Johnston County?
Johnston Regional Airport (JNX) serves the greater Raleigh metropolitan area and provides the most convenient location for the Triangle region. The airport is home to the Johnston County Economic Development department, aviation-related businesses, Duke Life Flight, and several corporate aircraft and recreational aviators.
- The Line Service Technician performs a variety of tasks involving semi-skilled and skilled manual work involving aircraft refueling, marshalling and towing aircraft.
- Work includes operating two-way radio equipment to provide advisory information to aircraft as well as hand-held internet connected devices that transmit and receive fuel orders.
- Employees must abide by FAA regulations, OSHA safety rules and regulations, and exercise significant care and accuracy in handling airplane fuel.
- Work subjects the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards associated with maintenance work, fumes, chemicals, mists, gases and oils.
- Duties may also expose the employees to human body fluids and thus the work is subject to the OSHA requirements on bloodborne pathogens.
- Work is assigned daily, is supervised by the Operation Department manager, and is reviewed by observation for quality and quantity of work completed and timeliness of completion.

- Checks and cleans the runway and taxiways daily; looks for foreign objects, bolts, vandalism, etc.
- Operates two-way radio; monitors frequency for aircraft landing calls; gives wind speed, advises which runway to use for landing and take-off.
- Receives and transfers aircraft fuel from supply tanker; opens and secures gate to fuel storage area, opens and closes lines and turns pump on and off; checks for moisture following standard procedures; refuels aircraft with aviation or jet fuel which involves verifying type of airplane and appropriate fuel source to avoid costly damage to aircraft.
- Performs general maintenance in the airport; sweeps, mops, vacuums and empties trash receptacles.
- Keeps accurate records on refueling covering the aircraft number, owner, and gallons of fuel; fills out invoice and files.
- Considerable knowledge of methods, materials and equipment related to airport systems and the various instruments related to proficient airport operation.
- Working knowledge of FAA regulations related to duties.
- Working knowledge of aircraft, types of fuel, and refueling techniques.
- Working knowledge of equipment, tools, and procedures required in performance of duties.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; and to provide documentation required by FAA regulations.
- Ability to operate varied equipment required in performance of duties.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with airport customers, other employees, superiors, and the general public.
- Ability to read and write as well as some related airport experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- This is an entry-level position and training will be provided, however, FBO or Line Service experience is preferred.
Salary : $35,360 - $41,600
