Job Description
POSITION: Grounds Foreman
LOCATION: Facility Services
SALARY: Pay Grade 72 (Pay Grade 74 with Pesticide Licensure)
REPORTS TO: Grounds Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time - 12 Months
JOB GOAL: To ensure all campuses are developed and maintained in a manner that is safe, inviting, and enhances the public image and instructional environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluates, recommends, and oversees all outdoor school campus infrastructure maintenance and improvements, including but not limited to, playgrounds, landscaping, utilities, stormwater retention facilities, ADA accessibility, etc.
- Works in conjunction with and makes recommendations to coordinators, supervisors, and other administration to implement plans and administer assigned projects.
- Prepares bid documents as needed, solicits for quotes, and manages projects.
- Collaborates and works in conjunction with the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor and other department foreman as needed.
- Ensures responsible areas maintain compliance with applicable regulations, codes, local authorities, and school board policies.
- Maintains records, work orders, inventory, budget, and expenditures of responsible areas.
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement, supports and encourages core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer-driven, and valuing diversity.
- Oversee employees assigned under position on a constant basis, and oversee employees not assigned as requested by supervisor or coordinator.
- Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma required and Associate’s degree or equivalent preferred.
- Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver's License
- Possession of a North Carolina Pesticide Applications License with ornamental and turf certification or acquisition within 6 months preferred.
- Relevant experience and working knowledge necessary to complete the duties of the position.
- Experience and ability to operate construction equipment as needed to perform the duties of the position.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing and establish working relationships with all school personnel, public officials, and contract vendors.
- Ability to negotiate with tact and professionalism to ensure maximum value for expenditures.
- Ability to analyze data, compile reports, and identify issues in order to make recommendations.
- Knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, hazards.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety hazards, and safety practices.
- Experience in a leadership position is preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to perform basic operational functions, medium/heavy lifting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and negligible amount of force to constantly lift, carry, push, or move objects.
- Must be able to climb ladders and be capable of walking, climbing, driving distances to complete the task required of the position.
- Ability to work flexible hours to perform the duties of the position or during an emergency.
